Touching Compared Picture of A Cambodian Girl

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

So, if this is a "touching story" where's the struggle in her upward mobility? Oh, and what salary minus tea money will she get as a low ranking civil servant? Sorry, maybe as other posters have suggested I am just a cynical old man who doesn't get it.

As an afterthought considering the political climate I hope she has an office job.

It doesn't look particularly good quality to me, it's very low res and you can clearly see compression artifacts.
15 years ago, the best camera wld probably be a DSLR, so maybe a reporter took the photo, is there DSLR 15years ago or juz SLR?
There were DSLRs 15 years ago but they were expensive and uncommon. It could have been taken on a smaller digital or even on a film camera and later scanned.

I would think that working for the Royal Gendarmerie has a lot more of a future in it than being a recycler.

Where in the story did you find that? In fact I reread the thread and found no story. Is this info that CEO News didn't include? Not certain if her take home salary is greater than a recycler.

I read into the pictures. One is of a recycler in rags, the other is the same person working for the GRK in an office years later. CEO News often neglects to give any background or links.

"I read into the pictures. One is of a recycler in rags,"

John, I read the Cambodian; the first picture just says the photo was taken before she was 7. As for the "recycler in rags" she is dressed like 50% of the young girls in our village. I don't know if you like drama or women in uniform but I wish you'd talk about what is there not about what you want to be there. Especially since you have no or little understanding of poverty in Cambodia.

What do you read in this picture, another 5 yo who's a recyclers daughter ? I guess you would like to see a photo of her now , 12 years on. aged 17.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

She is carrying a sack over her shoulder, so it's fair to guess that she is a recycler.

What makes you assume that?

Comes from my family photo album . Point being, most of us, including me, come from a poor childhood,. But it's where we end up and the honest effort and hard work we put in along the way that counts.

This does,

"She is carrying a sack over her shoulder, so it's fair to guess that she is a recycler."

Lots of kids, even poor ones, carry bags for different reasons. In our village the very poor use them carry their school supplies."

Duncan, I will get back to you.
