Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On the afternoon of June 15, 2023, representatives of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court opened an investigation into the case of a woman involved in the issuance of a check worth about $ 300,000.
Saran Socheata, female, 36 years old, businesswoman, living in Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh, was arrested by the criminal police of the Ministry of Interior on June 13, 2023 at Brown Cafe, and charged with "not fulfilling obligations for traded instruments", namely issuing a dud check for US$ 300,000.

According to the authorities, the arrest of the suspect was carried out in accordance with the arrest warrant issued by HE Chreung Khmao, Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, following a complaint by the victim, Kong Nak Nin.It is stated that during 2022, Saran Socheata contacted the plaintiff and begged for a loan of US $ 300,000 to be used for business capital immediately. Saran Socheata then wrote a check in the plaintiff's name for 300,000 US dollars, dated October 8, 2022, on her account at Vattanac Asia Bank Limited, so the plaintiff handed over the money in return for the postdated check.

The same source said that when the due date was reached, the plaintiff took the check to the bank, but the check was refused because there was no money in the account. The plaintiff tried to contact the suspect, but she could not be reached to settle the debt, therefore, the money-lender filed a complaint with the authorities to take legal action.

In addition, the suspect, Saran Socheata, was also a pong player who ran off with the money "invested" by the plaintiff in a Tong Tin scheme. Unable to repay any of these debts, the accused has been charged with collecting money and running away, as well as issuing a check of 300,000 US dollars on an account without sufficient funds.

Half the money was probably parked outside Brown Cafe where she was arrested.
