Phone Theft Leads to 26 Arrests in Poipet City
Cambodia News (Banteay Meanchey) On 6 July 2022, Colonel Sao Saroeun, Poipet City Police Inspector confirmed that the Poipet City Police Force have over the last two days, searched for and arrested a total of 26 suspects under the orders of Major General Sithi Loh, Banteay Meanchey Provincial Police Commissioner for further procedures.
Colonel Sao Saroeun confirmed that on 3 July 2022, the specialized force received information from a victim of theft that his blue iPhone 12 was stolen at Heng Met money exchanger on National Road 5 located in Palilei 1 Village, Sangkat Poipet, Poipet City. Special police forces arrived at the scene and checked the security cameras.
On 4 July 2022, specialized forces searched and arrested 5 suspects at Ponleu Pich Guesthouse, Room 3, Ground Floor, Palilei 2 Village, Sangkat and Poipet City at 8:30 AM, and confiscated 1 red MOOVE motorbike. After arresting and interrogating the five suspects, the specialized force continued to detain four more suspects and a black Honda Dream C125 motorcycle which was without a license plate.
He added that after detaining the nine suspects on the same day, the specialized force investigated and arrested five more suspects who were being sought after for a long time by the Poipet Police. The five suspects were also detained at Ponleu Pich Guesthouse, Room 14, 1st floor, in Palilei 2 Village, Poipet City.
Colonel Sao Saroeun further confirmed that on 5 July 2022, at 3:00 PM, the criminal police force of Poipet City Police Inspectorate continued to search for and arrest another group of 12 thieves in Palilei 2 Village, Sangkat Poipet, Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province. Specialists then tested the urine of those arrested for drugs, and found all with positive (+) results.
Police confiscated a victim's mobile phone and returned it to its original owner. The 26 male and female suspects remanded are currently the subject of a prosecution case which has been sent to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Police for further action according to the procedure.
