Two Kids Follow Father Fishing, and Meet with Tragic Accident
Cambodia News (Kandal): On May 22, 2020, at 4:30 pm, a tragic accident occurred yesterday, when two 9-year-olds died of drowning after following the father of one of them, when he went to the local pond to fish in Saang district, Kandal.
The victims were identified as:
1. Khum Ran, a 9-year-old boy, his parents, Nhor Sokhum, 36 years old, the father, and the mother, Neang Chroeun, 31 years old.
2. Thou Nary, 9-year-old girl, her parents; Thy Chanthou, 31 years old, the father, and the mother, Nhor Keang, 31 years old.
Before the incident, Khum Ran's father went fishing at Ang pond, and the kids followed him. While the man was busy fishing, the kids were playing the water, but then, after fishing, the man looked for his son and friend, but they were missing. So he went to check where they were last seen playing, but they had both disappeared, so he cried and screamed for help. People came running to search for the kids, and then half an hour later, they found the bodies.
After examination, the police conclude that the victims died of drowning. The bodies were returned to the family for funeral preparation.
RIP.

Some may say the father was, at least, negligent.
Re: Two Kids Follow Father Fishing, and Meet with Tragic Accident
dumb question, but do they not teach their children to swim? Especially living so close to water.
Anyway, a tragic event, RIP

Most adults I've met can't swim themselves. This is a real tragedy for a country so full of water (and so full of children.)
Poor kids. RIP

Re: Two Kids Follow Father Fishing, and Meet with Tragic Accident
Children drowning in Cambodia is a problem that does not go away. As someone pointed out, there is a lot of water in Cambodia, so why aren't children learning to swim ?
These two CEO threads from five years ago, 2015, are discussions on drownings in Cambodia and the importance of learning to swim. What is terrible is that the situation in Cambodia has not noticeably improved since then. Children, and adults too, are still dying because they can not swim or simply stay afloat when they are in deep water.
Any suggestions ?

Swimming Schools.
Driving Schools etc.
If a country can afford to train police and military how to shoot with guns , how much harder is it to find money to teach kids to swim .
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
