Tong Tin Woman Bounced $200K Check

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On June 08, 2023, the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie sent a female suspect before the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for questioning and legal action in connection with a case of non-compliance, wherein she issued a check without funds for the sum of 200,000 USD in Phnom Penh during 2022.

According to the report from the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie, the suspect is identified as Ly Kunthea, 24 years old, a saleswoman, residing in Chroy Changva, Phnom Penh.

The suspect was arrested by the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie and sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on a warrant issued by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court Prosecutor based on a complaint by the victim who had presented the check signed by the accused, only to be refused by the bank due to lack of funds in the account.

The suspect is currently being questioned at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

Fucking Tong Tin and fucking imbeciles who take checks for more than a few hundred bucks. I don't think I've used a check in more than a decade.

It could be a post-dated cheque - a stage payment - that bounced despite her best efforts. You assume someone has given her a lorry load of valuable goods in return for a cheque. People who trade in sums of $100,000 and multiples thereof are rarely that stupid.

Many countries (UAE for example) often use many post-dated cheques for rent payments and even lodge them with the bank for pre-clearance and automated presentation. If any bounce, and the 'bouncee' is of high standing, the police will come and visit the 'bouncer' to either collect or make an arrest.

It may well be that this endless stream of women bouncing high-value cheques may well be a symptom of a much higher level of financial distress among the people further up the food chain.

It's amazing what a trip to the salon, replacing the pyjama suit with a classy dress, putting on a bit of bling and selecting the 'beauty' setting on the camera can do
