Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Cambodia News (Svay Rieng): On May 21, 2020, at 4:30 am, a mine that was left over from the war exploded, killing three grazing buffaloes in Tabeb village, Bavet City, Svay Rieng. The buffaloes' owner was identified as Meach Trou, a 29-year-old man, a farmer.

The buffaloes were eating grass on land outside the village when the mine exploded during the night.
The police and CMAC team went to check the scene and they put up a caution sign to beware of mines. Fortunately, there was nobody injured in the explosion. The dead buffaloes were returned to the owner for funeral rites.

I'm surprised they still have unexploded ordinance in Svay Rieng.

That's the problem (hit or miss) sorry for the pun, but they could have drove buffalo over the land in hope to get some, also eradicating some danger before the mine sweepers moved in. One of the big problems, due to rainy season the landmines move around, also some are of plastic construction so hard to detect.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

I wonder how many guys will be getting texts from the gals saying family buffalo exploded, "send money new buffalo quick"

I noticed the area, Svay Rieng, I thought the mines were in the north east.
