Workers hurt, killed in crashes
Thu, 20 October 2016
Sen David
At least 20 garment workers were injured yesterday in Takeo province’s Tram Kak district, a day after an agricultural worker was killed in a similar road accident.

The Takeo incident occurred yesterday morning as workers were being driven to their factories. Police reports said the truck was hit by a concrete mixer, during a failed attempt to overtake a car, throwing several of the workers from the vehicle.

Deputy district police chief Cheal Phat said the driver, Hem Vuthy, had been briefly detained but was let go after agreeing to pay the victims 2 million riel, about $500, in compensation. “The concrete truck driver was at fault...
And the state of the roads...etc...
In a separate incident, a truck laden with cassava and 19 agricultural workers overturned on Tuesday afternoon as it tried to avoid a pothole while passing through Romeas Hek district’s Koki commune.

And they keep on keeping on. The amount of accidents involving garment worker trucks right now is staggering.

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 27 (FN) -- A truck transporting garment factory workers flipped onto its side on the eastern outskirts of Phnom Penh on Thursday morning, leaving 72 workers injured, a Cambodian Labor Ministry statement said.

The truck overturned when its neglect driver attempted to overtake a tuk-tuk at high speed, the statement said.

"Forty-three workers were seriously wounded as 29 others sustained light injuries," the statement said.

Labor Ministry spokesman Heng Sour told Xinhua that the injured workers had been sent to hospitals soon after the accident and the National Social Security Fund would cover for their medical expenses...

This thread was started not even two weeks ago, and in that short time there have been 6 reports of crashes involving garment trucks where many people have been injured and some have died. That's an accident every two days on average, and I doubt that they've all been reported here.

But yeah, carry on.

And again. Has nobody noticed that most of these accidents are due to the careless drivers and overloading, both of which could be avoided ?

Twelve workers injured in yet another collision

At least 12 garment workers were injured when a truck they were riding in overturned following a collision with another vehicle transporting workers in Kandal on Friday night, the latest in a recent rash of similar incidents.

Yes. Garment workers are being killed and badly injured in stupid truck accidents like clockwork very two days at the moment. According to the report here, on average more than 7 workers a day have been injured in transport accidents during the month of October. That is horrendous.
Twelve garment workers were injured in Svay Rieng province yesterday after the open-topped truck they were riding in pulled out in front of a truck on National Road 4, which pushed the number of garment workers injured in road accidents to more than 100 in the past week and prompting the National Police to promise a crackdown on dangerous drivers.

“The truck carrying Thai products hit the back of the workers’ truck, but actually the truck carrying the workers was in the wrong because the driver did not respect the priority of the other truck using the road,” he said.
“According to our measurements from the scene, the truck carrying the workers pulled out from the side road into the national road without respecting other drivers, which caused the other truck to crash into the back of it.”

Mr. Vantha said the driver of the goods truck fled the scene, while the garment truck driver was one of those who received serious injuries and was still in hospital. Mr. Vantha was not sure if he would face charges of dangerous driving.

In October, 233 garment workers were reported to have been injured in road accidents in six provinces and Phnom Penh, while traveling to or from work.

Yet another accident today. Again, the fault of a truck driver with an overloaded vehicle:
More Garment Workers Hurt in Road Accident

The day after the National Police vowed to crack down on dangerous driving by those transporting garment workers after a crash in Svay Rieng province that injured 12, another crash in the province left 26 more garment workers in need of medical care.

According to a report by the Ministry of Labor, the latest accident happened at 7:30am in Bavet town after a truck carrying 73 workers unsuccessfully tried to overtake a container truck and crashed into the side of it. Twenty-six workers were injured, one seriously...

“There are between 500 and 600 workers’ trucks coming to Bavet and Svay Rieng towns every day to the factories,” he [Pol Somao, the Bavet town traffic police chief] said, adding that regular education sessions for truck drivers on the road laws and safety advice were largely ignored...
