The Voice Cambodia star, San Srey Lai, shot dead by ex-husband

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I saw that you had a Somalian flag on your profile. I have heard that Somalia is a great place to see neolithic rock art. I was after some travel tips. I might just try Trip Advisor instead.

The vast majority of divorces in the west are filed by women and women are often advised by their lawyer to file false accusations of domestic violence. That tool is used so often that it's almost routine now. That causes the woman to get custody almost always. And then the systematic looting of the man's entire accumulated wealth begins. It's astounding how brutal the family court system in the west can be. So much of the man's income is seized that it often becomes nearly impossible to survive. And if the man's hours are cut or he gets laid off, his entire bank account can be emptied, leaving him with nothing to pay his rent with. And when he's about to be evicted that's when suicide starts to look like a solution to his problems.

I saw this this sort of thing happen to far too many of my friends and fellow mechanics. It's part of why I opted not to marry. It's not all bad though. With the help of a single man's lifestyle I'm now able to retire 13 years early (if I do it in Cambodia or some other low cost of living country). I'll probably be there sometime next year.
The what now? I'm no liberal but I'm pretty sure it's mostly the dude who abuses the partner, sure no problem some women are real bitches and my wife has a quite handy right, but really? Also, at divorce, my dad bitched about the money he got from the inheritance that paid off the mortgage, only to have the house split 50/50, but those cunts sold at the top of the bubble in 2007, literally all the money spent made back in spades, and yet my dad still has a beef about it. If you marry someone she gets half your shit, but then you get half of hers. And as someone who looks after a child that isn't fucking mine, yet her dad and his family seem to think a couple of pints and a pub meal cover all costs, I agree with the courts forcing you to pay for it. Be more careful about launching your spunk.

But also you're an idiot if you haven't hidden money from your wife.

27 October 2017
- According to Nokorwat News today, Cambodian social media is going wild after photos of San Srei Lai's naked corse were posted on Facebook. Her dead body was photographed naked, by someone who had access to the body.
Social media comments are all angry about the lack of respect toward the dead singer, and fingers are being pointed at police, officials, and hospital/morgue workers.
Mr. Sovann, Phnom Penh's police chief has announced an investigation into biopsy workers and police officers with absolutely no exception, because the photos are an affront to the dignity of the deceased and reflect badly on police professional ethics.
RIP.

A fine obituary piece about San Sreylai

The Voice Cambodia Candidate San Sreylai’s Kindness Is As Memorable As Her Songs

From when she was 12 years old, San Sreylai did everything she could to raise money for her family. Sok Sarom’s voice chokes as she describes her cousin’s generosity at the young singer’s funeral on Wednesday, and she pulls out a tissue.

“She always tried to make life better for others,” Sarom said.
