The Voice Cambodia star, San Srey Lai, shot dead by ex-husband

Not even close, last year 71 of a total of 227 murders were from partners.IraHayes wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2017 9:52 pmIn the USA being killed by your intimate partner is much less likely to happen than sitting on your arse all day eating and doing Feck all https://www.wvdhhr.org/bph/oehp/obesity/mortality.htm. Just noticed you said Australia not the US but I can’t be bothered to look up the figures for Oz though I would wager they’re similar.

Re: The Voice Cambodia star, San Srey Lai, shot dead by ex-husband
Sad situation. But men in the states (and probably most places) are far more likely to take their own lives than kill their ex. After a divorce the male suicide rate jumps from 4 times the female rate to 9 times the female rate (while the female rate is unchanged by divorce). I can understand murder if the woman is abusive and a deadly danger to his kids. The vast majority of child abuse is of course perpetrated by women, and unless she's a real monstrosity (drug addict ect) she automatically gets custody.
The vast majority of divorces in the west are filed by women and women are often advised by their lawyer to file false accusations of domestic violence. That tool is used so often that it's almost routine now. That causes the woman to get custody almost always. And then the systematic looting of the man's entire accumulated wealth begins. It's astounding how brutal the family court system in the west can be. So much of the man's income is seized that it often becomes nearly impossible to survive. And if the man's hours are cut or he gets laid off, his entire bank account can be emptied, leaving him with nothing to pay his rent with. And when he's about to be evicted that's when suicide starts to look like a solution to his problems.
I saw this this sort of thing happen to far too many of my friends and fellow mechanics. It's part of why I opted not to marry. It's not all bad though. With the help of a single man's lifestyle I'm now able to retire 13 years early (if I do it in Cambodia or some other low cost of living country). I'll probably be there sometime next year.

Does being a mechanic carry a high risk of committing suicide?
I can honestly say in my 50+ years (cough) I do not know anyone who has topped themselves. No friends, family or mechanics. Maybe I just make everyone fucking happy.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that farmers, lumberjacks and fishermen kill themselves most often. High rates were also seen in carpenters, miners, electricians and people who work in construction. Mechanics were close behind, according to the study, which showed enormous differences of suicide rates across jobs.https://www.cbsnews.com/news/these-jobs ... f-suicide/
Occupation and Suicide
Data are from the national mortality file tapes, which cover 21 states. They refer to 9,499 suicides and 134,386 deaths from all other causes in 1990. Results. Bivariate logistic regression models find a total of 15 occupations with either significantly higher (e.g., dentists, artists, machinists, auto mechanics, and carpenters) or lower (e.g., clerks, elementary school teachers, cooks) risk than the rest of the working-age population.https://www.jstor.org/stable/42955727?s ... b_contents

If he's wearing high heels and stockings, suspenders and a bra, then he's probably okay.prahocalypse now wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2017 4:46 pmSo when a lumberjack says "I'm okay", he's probably lying.

To be fair if I was a mechanic in the USA working on American cars I'd be suicidal.
