Re: The Royal Group Occheuteal
I know shit loads of disenchanted or Chinerised (kick out of their room) going. Partly coz they can't find similar accomodation, and if they do they will still be at risk of a booting, bit mainly they are tired of the mess.
I don't think they dislike the Chinese as people. I have not witnessed any of the rudeness often attributed to them. (the people I see pushing in are Khmer).
I have known business people get booted out too, Handle Bar (twice), Cider Shack and many others.
In two years Kampot will be like drinking in SHV 2015, before "they" came. (and I don't mean the begpeckers)

Re: The Royal Group Occheuteal
Perhaps not, but there is a history of back-tracking or delaying measures like mass evictions close to elections.
I am speculating. Like most people, I dont know what will happen, but some beach bar owners seem to think there may be a reprieve. On the Beach Rd they seem certain that its all over for them in 2 months. This is what local business people are saying, and yes, this is more local rumour than information FWIW. Real information is hard to come by, and changes often.

That's because they are used to being told something then nothing happening for years then get a notice and nothing happens for years then blamo.
This time it's the chinks. Things are different.

Re: The Royal Group Occheuteal
The "chinks" as you so eloquently put it, have nothing to do with this at all. Nothing.
A meeting will ,apparently, be held between Royal Group representatives and the leaseholders on either the 14th or 18th of this month. Looks like the new buildings on the beach will be safe as the stated aim is to "clean the area up". A khmer friend (bar owner who will be affected) was told today that the shacks would be knocked down, rebuilt and then offered to the current leaseholders at an increased rent. The increase that was mentioned will be marginal only for some of the latest leases, but somewhat substantial for older leases.
No word on which bars and the extent of the destruction yet. Whether this is close to the truth or not, NOBODY knows at the moment.

Re: The Royal Group Occheuteal
So, what you are saying is that the Royal Group has not sold or leased any of the land on Occheuteal beach and behind that to Chinese businessmen, that they are not financed by any Chinese investment, and they are the sole company that will be developing the beach sector ? This remains a strictly Cambodian enterprise then, and the so-called Chinese development plan for Occheutel beach is just an unfounded rumour ?Hotdigr wrote: The "chinks" as you so eloquently put it, have nothing to do with this at all. well thats a relief.
Whatever I say here, I admit that I know nothing beyond hearsay, but if you have any concrete rumours, please post. (Thats a sort of joke.)

Re: The Royal Group Occheuteal
What I am saying is that there is no direct Chinese involvement/investment in the decision to knock down and rebuild the area we are talking about in this post. That is a concrete fact mate.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 8:39 pmSo, what you are saying is that the Royal Group has not sold or leased any of the land on Occheuteal beach and behind that to Chinese businessmen, that they are not financed by any Chinese investment, and they are the sole company that will be developing the beach sector ? Re: The Royal Group Occheuteal
Royal Group were always looking for partners to develop on Koh Rong. Has anyone seen how their development is going there?
