The Royal Group Occheuteal

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Looking forward to seeing Jerry Atric schlopping around trying to order his favorite western dish only to be told to f**ck off

Well, that would necessitate my visiting Siahnoukville - fucking unlikely.

Also, if I'm heading to eat something I like, I can guarantee you I wouldn't be schlepping, be more likely that I'd be on the hotfoot.

In my family you were quick, or hungry.

Some will be closing and some will stay. Most that's been written here is just speculations. No Chinese involved...

Well 1.37m Aussies visited Bali in 2016, roughly 1 in 25 of the population, this is 1/20th of the 1 in 5,000. The Chinese population is roughly 4 times the population of the USA. .... and they love to gamble.
Aussies generally prefer single/twin occupancy, don't the Chinese like to pack them in? iow, maybe less rooms?
Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right? ;)

Last news I had was from Ecstatic Pizza on Beach Rd. The old guy there told me that all those happy pizza joints and other restaurants along there are getting kicked out at the end of the year. They hope to relocate nearby, otherwise talking of leaving for Kampot.
[Shameless plug for Ecstatic Pizza on Beach Rd on the right hand side heading away from Serendipity, just after the tourist police and the road down to Occheuteal beach and the bars. Go try his pizzas - just because you still can. :good: ]

IMO if they are bulldozing beach road on the side closest to the beach, it seems logical that all the shacks between there and the beach will also be destroyed to make way for a mega-construction. Its the timeline thats unclear. Will they throw so many people out before elections ?

Most financial Bubbles are built on debt.

Debt fueled bubbles burst when the market turns and the value of the security falls, leading to loans being called in. This in turn leads to distressed sales which cannot be financed by debt and prices plummet accordingly. Pretty much a whirlpool effect.

This investment deluge appears to be mostly equity funded not debt. It is a drop in the ocean in terms of overall exposure for most Chinese corporations and investors here I would assume.

Why are house prices in Sydney around $1m, when the average income is less than $75k and houses in rural Tasmania can be bought for $100k? The answer is demand, it is not related to fundamentals.
Exactly.
I'm tired of this "bubble will burst in 2016/2017/2018" etc. It won't burst for at least 10 years but then it would have stabilised.

Will there be anywhere to relocate nearby? I also doubt Kampot will have enough properties for business, and living accommodations.
As for elections, I would not think it would make a difference. But if it did, it would probably go in favour for bringing new enterprise into the country.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
