Is the PPP next?

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Well maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm a guest in this country and would not like to have my visa cancelled (or be blocked re-entry) due to posting political views/criticism on FB in my real name. I think discretion is prudent.

yeah I have this guy on fb who keeps commenting negative stuff about the government and the god emperor eehh I mean democratically elected president. Especially hes also doing it on public posts like from the daily and ppp. Just waiting for a fb posting from him about how he went on a visa run and now they're denying him reentry.

I tend to agree by and large with your quote. I draw the line at offering advice. Whatever the Khmer perceive as a problem should be handled by Khmer alone. UNTAC exemplifies how foreign intervention was ill prepared to deal with the crisis at hand.

When I think of someone that would get their visa pulled or deported/banned is someone like Alejandro Gonzalez-Davidson. I think the majority of expats are free to say what they want with the exceptions if you're in a business here and more of a player in the country instead of the expat that sits around a bar drinking beer all day. Also just having your name wouldn't generally be enough to get someone to track you down imo, unless you really pissed someone off high up.

I've had other expats tell me to watch what I say on certain facebook groups because of who may or may not be in them. I don't really care who reads what I write but then I'm a laid back guy and 1 eye doesn't bother me. Actually if you think about it, as expats he's good for us. Sure the CNRP is good if you're hoping on making the government better but really the CPP is who keeps the visa rules relaxed. The CNRP wants to tighten them up. If they gained the majority you would definitely see rules changes put into effect. But there I go spouting politics about a country I'm a guest in.

It'll slowly become like Thailand in most respects, it's inevitable, visas and as you say barang hatred. Just depends on how fast or slow that happens.

I'm generally with my wife so I get a free pass lol albeit I know they may not say anything but I know they're thinking it. A couple times in tourist areas, she's went off people there. Essentially they say, why are you taking care of a foreigner? Why don't you take care of Khmer and give me more money?

A strange thing is I see it more in the younger generation, the older generation still love token foreigners coming around the provinces.

I think that, just like Thailand did 10-15 years ago, the Government now really want their taxes paid. Some people object to that and find themselves in trouble. A lot of long-standing business here are simply worth nothing at the moment when one factors in the tax liabilities accrued and waiting to bite.

Nah, that's just hatred for you, because you're an weirdo who eats crap food, drinks crap beer, stares at walls and complains. The hatred is coming from foreigners and locals.
