The hunted Sorcerer of Ratanakkiri

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Accused ‘sorcerer’ now in protective custody

More than two weeks in the forest with little food and water had left Kin unwell. But, he said, district and provincial authorities came to his rescue yesterday morning with money, gifts and the offer of shelter.

“I am poor, so I am very happy when the district and provincial governors help like this. If I run out of this stuff, they will help again. They have allowed me to stay with the police,” Kin said, explaining that, in addition to $100 cash, he had been given food, mosquito nets, blankets, and sleeping mats.

Kin said he has been given permission to stay in the police station for about four days, while authorities investigate his case.

Bakao District Governor Heng Bunny said that authorities would use the time to speak with local villagers, and try to put an end to the accusations.

“We will also search for the reason that villagers have fallen sick” and died, he added.

My first idea was "Wow, what a sensible attitude by the authorities - amazing." :hattip:
And then I thought about all these "gifts" and stuff, which seem a bit over the top, ($100 cash because you look like you could use a few bucks ?? ) and wondered if they are trying to pay him off so he won't do any more sorcery.
Or maybe the governor is hiring him to get rid of his enemies
