As reported in AW 's original post. Born in China but with Canadian citizenship, served time in the US and now based in Macau.
And the blurred bit is for??? privacy???
No, the blurred bit is to mask the passport number. If you have a look at other cases here on CEO, you will see that they are always blurred. It is a big NO-NO to post passport numbers and could have serious consequences for us.
If the Khmer news post them, then we blur them. That's how it is. Anything that could lead to identity theft must be blurred.

To be clear - it was blurred in the original reuters article.... which is where the photo came from

I was questioning how in the article 'privacy rights' trumped a wanted felon and international drug king-pin. Seems a tad keystone coppish...

CEOCambodiaNews wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2019 1:34 am The Hunt for Guanyinwang Tea Methamphetamine Busts
CEO News
From the OP article:
One telling discovery: a screenshot of a slip from an international courier company recording the delivery of two consignments of packaging, manufactured to hold loose-leaf Chinese tea, to a Yangon address. Since at least 2012, tea packets, often containing one kilo of crystal meth each, had been cropping up in drug busts across the Asia-Pacific region.

For regional counter-narcotics police, the revelations upended their assumption that the drugs were being trafficked by different crime groups. It became clear the shipments were the work of just one organisation.
It all looks very connected. At each mega-drug bust involving methamphetamine in South East Asia this year, whether in Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam or Cambodia, the crystal methamphetamine is always packed in these Guanyinwang tea bags. Since coincidence on this scale is unlikely, the conclusion must be that this same huge Chinese drug syndicate, " The Company", is also responsible for the vast quantities of methamphetamine that are flooding into Cambodia.
The amount of drugs seized in one week in March 2019, in three enormous busts in Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam, is a staggering 2520 kilograms. (See below for details.)

PASIR GUDANG • Malaysian police have crippled a drug distribution syndicate and seized 2,060kg of drugs believed to be syabu, or crystal methamphetamine, worth RM103.2 million (S$34.7 million), local media reported yesterday.

The drugs were packed to look like Chinese tea packets.

The bust is the biggest drug haul in the history of Malaysian police, the federal police's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director, Commissioner Mohamad Salleh, was quoted as saying by The Star newspaper.
He said the drugs, disguised as Guanyinwang Chinese tea, were believed to be from the "Golden Triangle" countries of Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand.

Mr Mohamad said the syndicate has been around for some time, and that apart from the domestic market, the drugs were also meant for distribution in Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, South Korea, Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
Meth worth $28m seized in upscale enclave near Manila

Philippine drug enforcers have seized around 160kg of methamphetamine valued at more than 1.1 billion pesos (S$28 million) at an upscale enclave just south of the capital Manila where prominent lawmakers, politicians, celebrities and business executives live under tight security.

Three Chinese nationals and a Chinese-Filipino interpreter were arrested late on Tuesday in separate raids in Ayala Alabang Village, a posh gated community in Muntinlupa city, and at a nearby shopping mall. Those arrested were Go Kei Kei, 40, Chua Kian Kok, 43, Wu Yi, 19, and their interpreter Emmanuel Pascual, 79.

The drugs, a powerful methamphetamine locally known as shabu, were concealed in tea wrappers and biscuit cans, similar to those in seizures in Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Aaron Aquino said this suggested that an international syndicate running drugs through the notorious "Golden Triangle", which straddles the borders of Laos, Thailand and Myanmar, was behind the trafficking.

HANOI (AFP) - Vietnam police busted a massive meth ring in a Ho Chi Minh City mansion allegedly run by a Chinese national who used a textile company as a cover for the operation, police and state media reported on Thursday (March 21).

Police on Wednesday stormed the luxury property in Vietnam's largest city, guarded with private security and outfitted with cameras, during an hours-long raid which unearthed methamphetamine believed to have been smuggled in from Laos.

Around 300kg of methamphetamine was seized, and images in the press later displayed dozens of bricks of drugs.

"Eleven people were arrested, including eight Chinese and three Vietnamese," a police official from Binh Tan district, where the bust took place, told AFP on Thursday, requesting anonymity.

UPDATE - 691 kilograms of methamphetamine seized in Myanmar last week:
That same week, 23 sacks of drugs disguised as Chinese green tea were discovered floating in the sea by Myanmar fishermen, who could not read Chinese, and thought the bags contained deodorant.
Somebody panicked and threw the whole load of methamphetamine overboard. There have been huge loses recently, thanks to drug enforcement agencies, but the Chinese drug syndicate which is exporting hundreds of kilos of meth out of Myanmar is still reportedly making huge profits.

Fishermen who found the sacks floating in the sea thought it was a deodorant substance

Sacks of crystal meth scooped from the sea by Myanmar fishermen who mistook it for a deodorant substance had a street value of US$20 million, an official said on Sunday, in a country believed to be the world’s largest methamphetamine producer.

The accidental drug haul off Myanmar’s coastal Ayeyarwady region occurred when fishermen spotted a total of 23 sacks floating in the Andaman Sea on Wednesday.

Each one contained plastic-wrapped bags labeled as Chinese green tea – packaging commonly used by Southeast Asian crime gangs to smuggle crystal meth to far-flung destinations including Japan, South Korea and Australia.

Locals were mystified by the crystallized substance in the sacks, said Zaw Win, a local official of the National League for Democracy party who assisted the fishermen and police.

At first, they assumed it was a natural deodorant chemical known as potassium alum, which is widely used in Myanmar.

“So they burned it, and some of them almost fainted,” he said.

They informed the police, who on Thursday combed a beach and found an additional two sacks of the same substance – bringing the total to 691 kilograms, or 1,500 pounds, which would be worth about $20.2 million, Zaw Win said.

“In my entire life and my parents’ lifetime, we have never seen drugs floating in the ocean before,” he said.

The massive haul was sent on Sunday to Pyapon district police, who declined to comment on it. Myanmar’s multi-billion-dollar drug industry is centered in eastern Shan state, whose poppy-covered hills are ideal cover for illicit production labs.

Made-in-Myanmar crystal meth – better known as ice – is smuggled out of the country to more lucrative markets using routes carved out by narco gangs through Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.

Bejeeesus.

My Hello Kitty and Ribena drinks.

Is nothing sacred anymore.

No wonder my kids like Milo finger dip.

FFS I'm up half the night with a fucking lemon tea now.

And I always wondered why my missus keeps insisting on the "magic chew mango" before a bedtime session.

Breaking..

Asia's El Chapo' Tse Chi Lop arrested at Amsterdam airport, Australian police to request extradition
Tse Chi Lop was arrested by Dutch police on Friday local time at the request of the AFP, after an arrest warrant and Interpol Red Diffusion request was issued for the Chinese-born Canadian national.

Mr Tse is listed as one of the world's most-wanted fugitives, with the AFP claiming his organisation dominates the $90 billion-a-year Asia-Pacific drug trade.

"Tse Chi Lop is in the league of El Chapo or maybe Pablo Escobar," Jeremy Douglas, South-East Asia and Pacific representative for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, told Reuters in 2019, referring to two of Latin America's most notorious drug lords.
The syndicate he is suspected of running is known to its members as The Company.

They call it "THE COMPANY" ?? that's a true steal because all those old enough to remember the Vietnam war know that THE COMPANY is actually the CIA. The CIA was and perhaps still is one of the biggest Drug Traffickers in the World. Perhaps the Chinese are now catching up in this very profitable market.

Here is the prove what the CIA (the company) used when trafficking drugs out of Vietnam
Vietnam, the CIA's Illegal Drug Trafficking,
and JFK's Assassination:

An Overview of Michael Collins Piper's "Final Judgment"

by Victor Thorn

NOTE: The information below is derived from Michael Collins Piper’s Final Judgment. My role is that of a reviewer, and all credit for the research must be given to Mr. Piper. I urge everyone to purchase a copy of this book. Final Judgment is published by The Center for Historical Review, 132 Third Street, SE, Washington, DC, 20003 (1-888-699-NEWS)

Perhaps the biggest secret of the Vietnam War is that our Central Intelligence Agency seized control of the infamous Golden Triangle during that time period, then, along with assistance from various elements of Organized Crime, shipped huge amounts of heroin out of that area into our country. Because piles of money were being made from this practice and many others, those who stood to profit from this horrendous war – the armament manufacturers, bankers, military men, and drug dealers – met any suggestion to withdraw from Vietnam with immediate consternation. But that’s exactly what John F. Kennedy intended to do upon re-election. In fact, he had already planned on telling the American people that their troops would be back home by 1965. Think about this momentous decision for a moment. If we had exited Vietnam by 1965, EIGHT years of bloodshed in the jungles and civil unrest on America’s streets and campuses could have been alleviated.

Michael Collins Piper writers in Final Judgment: “Kennedy’s intended change in Vietnam policy – his plan to unilaterally withdraw from the imbroglio – infuriated not only the CIA but elements in the Pentagon and their allies in the military-industrial-complex. By this time, of course, the Lansky Syndicate had already set-up international heroin running from Southeast Asia through the CIA-linked Corsican Mafia in the Mediterranean. The joint Lansky-CIA operations in the international drug racket were a lucrative venture that thrived as a consequence of deep U.S. involvement in Southeast Asia as a cover for drug smuggling activities.”

Piper’s simple one-paragraph explanation may be the most concise overview of the Vietnam War ever written. The military men and defense contractors were making out like bandits from the War Machine, while the CIA crooks and Lansky-led Mobsters (via Santo Traficante as the major wheeler-dealer) were likewise padding their pockets. Author Peter Dale Scott, in Deep Politics and the Death of JFK, said of this phenomenon, “The flood of drugs into this country since WWII was one of the major ‘unspeakable’ secrets leading to the ongoing cover-up of the Kennedy assassination.”

To provide a broader perspective on this situation, Professor Alfred McCoy stated in The Politics of Heroin, “Since the prohibition of narcotics in 1920, alliances between drug brokers and intelligence agencies have protected the global narcotics traffic. Given the frequency of such alliances, there seems a natural attraction between intelligence agencies and criminal syndicates. Both are practitioners of what one retired CIA operative has called the ‘clandestine arts’ – the basic skill of operating outside the normal channels of civil society. Among all the institutions of modern society, intelligence agencies and crime syndicates alone maintain large organizations capable of carrying out covert operations without fear of detection.”

On the government side, the two main Golden Triangle runners were Ted Schackley and Thomas Clines – the same two men who ran Operation Mongoose (the plot to take out Fidel Castro). Thus, from 1960-1975, the CIA deployed a secret force of 30,000 Hmong tribesmen to fight the Laotian Communists. They also created heroin labs in this area; then brought it out via their own private airline – Air America.

Alfred McCoy, in The Politics of Heroin: CIA Complicity in the Global Drug Trade, describes how the CIA first gave smack to our own American soldiers in Vietnam before shipping it into the United States, where Lansky mobsters dealt it on the streets.

Sam Giancana’s biographers reinforced this point by stating that while organized crime did its thing, “The CIA looked the other way – allowing over $100 million a year in illicit drugs to flow through Havana into the U.S. It was an arrangement similar to all the rest they’d made. The CIA received 10% of the take on the side of narcotics, which they utilized for their undercover slush fund.”

After the Mob and the CIA generated this dirty money, they laundered it into secret bank accounts controlled by the international bankers. That way, the government couldn’t get their hands on it and the funds could be invested in the stock market, loaned out to other businesses on the take, or channeled into the Secret Services’ black budgets.

So, even though the above information is only the tip of the iceberg, now do you see why it was so important to the CIA/Mobster/international banker cabal that JFK didn’t pull America out of Vietnam? The money (via illegal drug trafficking and for the War Machine) was incredible, while CONTROL of another area of the globe (the Golden Triangle) was secured.

As a final note, only FOUR DAYS after John Kennedy was assassinated, Lyndon Baines Johnson, his successor, put his name on NSAM 273, which secured our increased involvement in Southeast Asia. These guys weren’t wasting any time! Within a few short months, our involvement in Vietnam went from 20,000 troops to a quarter of a million! The CIA had won, and ten years later 58,229 American soldiers were dead - truly shocking and abysmal behavior – an embarrassment and blight on the American consciousness.
