Meat (Dog) Is Becoming Increasingly Popular in Chbar Mon Town, but Some Citizens Are Not Happy

Kompong Speu Province: Canis lupus familiaris (dog) is an animal that people like to have so that they can guard the house and not allow groups of delinquent, lawless people to trespass or interfere with their property, break locks, etc. But there are also many people who like to eat the meat of this animal as well.
A 38 year old man called Srey Kosal, who lives in Tuol Thnong village, Roka Tom Commune, met with Koh Santepheap and told that he had opened and has been selling dog meat for many years, he sells from the morning until the evening and sells 10 kilograms of meat a day. This snack meat can be cooked according to the customers desires; some like it grilled, some like it steamed, others like it as a soup, he asks his customers what they like and can accommodate their tastes.
As for the critical opinion of people who don't like this type of meat they say that before these restaurants opened they never lost their dogs, but since they have opened they often lose their dogs. This problem is one that the authorities should tackle to prevent lawless people from catching dogs to take and sell.
According to police officials in Chbar Mon Town there really are rather a lot of places selling dog meat opening, but they have informed the sellers that they mustn't buy dog meat that has come from locals inhabitants.

A mere 100 meters from where I live there are 2 restaurants opposite to one another selling dog meats over the grill in wide open view. I think they became the local's favorite because it is cheap. I have nothing against it but not a pleasure to my eyes. It looks similar to this photo I took a few years ago when invited except it was cooked.

There is a row of dog meat restaurants in Toul Svay Prey in Phnom Penh. They're busy.

As you can see from tone the article dogs are viewed as working animals - cheap guards for your property, not as pets.

Someone in Kampong Speu should open a farm.

Seen a man controlling the stray dog population in Kep.
The poor thing was yelping from a plastic bag tied to the side of his bicycle.
When i stopped & starred a woman walking past yelled out at him, he then pretended to be caring to the plastic bag.

I don't see why anyone who eats meat gives a shit. What difference does one animal make from another? I've eaten dog twice and didn't really like it, but I didn't feel I was breaking any moral code. Well, that is not quite true. Despite eating meat now (I was raised vegetarian), I still debate the ethics of it daily basis. Still, dog, cow, chicken - all the same to me. How is one worse than the other? I would say how the animal was treated before it died matters much more.

I will admit that I could never eat a cat because I love cats, but I don't pretend that people who do eat cats are disgusting; I just understand my emotional attachment precludes me from making such a decision.

I've eaten cat twice but not known until after I'd eaten it. Indonesia. Protein is protein and we can't all afford Black Angus.

Totally agree. I'd even go for 'long pig' in a lifeboat or Donner Party starvation situation without hesitation.
