Re: RE: Re: Swiss Tourist Daniel Georg Zurcher Commits Suicide at Moona Hotel in Phnom Penh
I for one have a gut feeling that there was no foul play involved. He's telling friends and family that he's buggering off to a monastery a few days ago, yet somehow ends up in a cheap guesthouse, asking staff to buy him drugs.Rama wrote:Got a link for this General?
PM it to me please.
News site I'm reading speculates it could be murder, and the drugs sound heavier than sleeping medicine.
No idea what he has around his legs, but I also don't see how that would have been used in a robbery/murder. Seems he would have been trying his best to break free, and I don't see any marks from a struggle near that thing.
He sells all sorts of trinkets, and it looks like he could have tied that himself.
And in Hinduism they tie the toes together when you die. No idea if that's related, but he obviously doesn't seem to care much about death.
It looks very loose around his ankles, not like something you would put on someone to "restrain" them.
No reports of dodgy people coming or going, just a loner who does way too much yoga and meditation, seems to think death is just a part of the cycle of life, asks the hotel staff to help him get pharmaceuticals, tells everyone on Facebook he's going to a place where he can't take anything with him and ends up dead 3 days later in a $10 a night Cambodian guesthouse.
In short, nothing about this seems like murder or suggests foul play to me.
Ok, maybe he was robbed for all his new age jewelry, I don't know.

Re: Swiss Tourist Daniel Georg Zurcher Commits Suicide at Moona Hotel in Phnom Penh
It seems most likely to me that he killed himself by overdosing. Hang Meas and Arey News both state he got the hotel to get him some medicine, numerous packets of medicine are found on the other bed in the room, KPT say he was injecting a drug & the police have taken a urine sample to test. KPT also say the krama was 'small & thin'... Is it possible the legs were tied and the neck constricted as some sort of death ritual?
Also, reading more carefully the KPT articles it repeatedly (and unusually) says that the police say 'he killed himself (committed suicide)' - using brackets with the Khmer word for suicide. Their article does that 3 times. With more obvious suicides, such as hangings they just say the victim committed suicide. Neither KPT or the police say he hung himself, they just say he was found with his neck tied.
The 'unofficial conjecture' at the end of the article is just the journalist expressing his ignorance of the scene (and perhaps reacting to being brushed off by the police.)

This morning's Nokor Thom headline reads 'Swiss Man Overdoses, Ties his Neck, Dies in Hotel'
Also adds the detail that no marks (bruises or scars) were found on his body
[Story below is about a boy who lost his arm in a brick crushing machine and died!]

Had a bad thought for a moment about the subutex thread: https://cambodiaexpatsonline.com/ask-the ... t6434.html
But the Swiss guy was dead already so it wasn't him looking for drugs TF ... RIP.
One thing that gets me though is why did he ask the hotel staff to buy him some drugs ? Wouldn't that be bad karma ? It's really not a nice thing to do.

You pair of fucking idiots. Couldnt resist the opportunity to get a quick gag in. Do you really think that friends & family want to read that when looking for answers as to how he passed away? Would you ?
Its highly offensive to trivialise his death by making cluedo references.!!

Hello Gerry,
The general speculation came from trying to decipher the Khmer news sources and was not meant unkindly.
Personally, I apologise for my remark which was thoughtless. It is very hard to lose a family member far from home whatever the circumstances.
Sincere condolences to you and your family. AM
