Swiss Expat (SALT Academy Football Coach) Tried To Forcefully Take Kid From Cambodian Mother in Battambang (VIDEO)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

A public statement from SALT Academy-Cambodia a few hours ago. They even say more will be transparent soon. I don't see any reason to delete a video they are making public statements on and even say more info will be released about this "domestic dispute" at a later time:

Image

"Earlier today, a video of our founder Sam was put online.

In the video, we see Sam and his ex-wife unwilling to let go of their son.

Sam has legal custody over the child - a court ruling which is not being respected by the mother who is not allowing Sam to connect to his son and refuse his son to be in right school.

The real story is not shown in this video and does not share the truth.

Please don’t judge Sam incorrectly, a man who has dedicated more than a decade of his life to Cambodia.

More will be made transparent soon.

Thank you for your support.

SALT Academy.

If he has legal custody he did not try to forcefully take his kid from the mother, the mother forcefully kept his child away from him despite him being the legal guardian.

Thread title should be changed as if he does have legal custody the mother is in the wrong regardless of how it looks.

Ok, Sam should have just called the police and got them to deal with it but we all do stupid shit when our children are involved.

I don't know what the (family) law is in Cambodia but in Australia it is not that simple. Police will NOT get involved in family law disputes unless there are specific court orders demanding they take action. Recovery orders are not issued lightly and are only issued when all reasonable steps have been taken to get the respondent to comply with current orders.

Given corruption in Cambodia whomever has legal custody may be covered by law but may have got that outcome by dubious means. But necessarily in this case but certainly not to be overlooked either.

I've heard going to the police going both ways in Cambodia, but if he is the legal guardian, by court order, that works in his favour.

If they have only "mutually agreed" together the child would stay with him that could complicate things, especially if nothing is in writing.
