A second video, of the mother speaking with the public about the incident:
"Life is too important to take seriously."
"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."

If it's his kid I hardly see the issue here, just an everyday domestic. Get an axe and chop the child in half. What does a gruber do to pigs, anyhow?

Interesting read, albeit a hyperbolic title, about him here https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/re ... -vigilante

Re: Swiss Expat (SALT Academy Football Coach) Tried To Forcefully Take Kid From Cambodian Mother in Battambang (VIDEO)
This was sent to CEO in the past hour:
"Dear CEO.
First and foremost thank you for the work you are doing.
I am writing today in response to the story you posted about Sam the Swiss expat. I wish to remain anonymous and do not want to be involved. The only reason I am writing is because you mentioned SALT in the title and their amazing work cannot and should not be threatened by this story.
The child in the video is Sam son. The women boys ex wife. They have may finished year long custody battle, Sam won this case but the mum has refused Sam access to the child. I do not condone the actions on the video in any way but the way it's reported is false and could potentially do damage to the organisation.
Sam is the founder and remains on the board but no longer coaches or had anything to do with the day to day running.. It's now Khmer run with western volunteers coming in sometimes. Sam now lives back in Switzerland until the time comes on which he will be able to actually have his son.
The video does not look good.. I can't relay any facts to you but I have been told things about the son being brain washed and threatened but these are not FACTS but would explain the boys behaviour.
Like I mentioned, the work you guys do is great, keeping people informed and up to date is important. However this headline could be damaging to the organisation who have nothing to do with it.. That would be a real shame. I don't condone Sam behaviour and the video doesn't look good on his part but the organisation shouldn't suffer because of it.
Thank you."

I would say it's the fact that he's playing tug-of-war with his kid in broad daylight with dozens of onlookers taking videos that's being reported on, not the custody battle.Digg3r wrote:Poor form reporting on custody matters

I think coverage of domestic disputes on public forums is scraping the bottom of the barrel.
We've all witnessed sad things, they exist..but why be the vehicle for broadcasting them?
People are dying because of wars, starving. Perspective.
Sad.

I generally agree. However, he's playing tug-of-war with his kid in front of the whole village.ratchet wrote:I think coverage of domestic disputes on public forums is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Even the BBC reports on cases of domestic disputes, so I don't see how someone can expect to make a big scene like this in public in Cambodia or anywhere and not have it be reported on.
But again, I generally agree with you and Digger on this, but this was quite a PUBLIC scene, and the dude is practically a public figure.

Thing is that at first viewing it is not really obvious whether this belongs in the public or private domain, and whether it is a private domestic dispute or not.ratchet wrote: I think coverage of domestic disputes on public forums is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

CEOCambodiaNews just passes on the news that is already out there in the news and social media. This video was already online on Khmer social media and on TOF so it was already "out there" for public viewing. (That said, there are precautions that could be taken, like possibly protecting the identity of the child in this case.)
If this is a private affair between partners, then I agree that it has no place on news, but until you look into what actually happened, you can't know whether the video is showing a child in an abusive situation, or whether it is being used to provide evidence in a divorce case, or if it is just a random smartphone film from unknown bystanders.
If we knew who posted the original video and their motivation, the situation might be clearer. Or it might not, since so many people are now filming and posting random videos of strangers, and who cares what it really means.
IMO it's a difficult call to say what's public and what's private, but once it's in the public domain then it's open for discussion here.We can always decide not to comment further.

^ Good points. I think the video is way too grainy to identify him in it though.
