Suspect Arrested for Arson after Kampong Cham School Burns Down

KAMPONG CHAM - Authorities said that there was a case of arson at the village of Kroch Srol, Hann Chey commune, Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham province, at 2:15 am local time on Monday, June 11, 2018.
Witnesses said that the fire was caused by Pov Sopheap, a 32-year-old resident of Lavea village, Hann Chey district, Kampong Siem district, Kampong Cham province, for reasons unknown. The suspect has been taken into custody by police for questioning.
No casualties were reported.

Correction: The building that was burnt down was a dining hall at a village pagoda.
The man who was arrested for arson is believed to be mentally ill, and there was no motive for his act.

Kampong Siem district police in Kampong Cham province arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly setting fire to a pagoda’s dining hall in Hanchey commune, early on Monday.

District Police Chief Ek Pandorn said a villager, identified as Pov Sopheap, walked to a local pagoda in Krouch Seuch village at around 2am and set fire to the wooden dining hall.
