I sold my body, because I just wanted to periodically have fun



In a very sexy clothes, miniskirt and very thin loosely shirt and a very big pair of earrings sitting on her Scoopy motorbike; Rumduol is a very beautiful and attractive girl which can always draw people attention to look at her everywhere she went. Rumduol is still a minor. She is not yet eighteen years old. Presently she is studying in grade 11 at one of the high school in Phnom Penh city. She was born in a middle class family whose father works as civil servant. However, the reason that she sold her body was just because she wanted to get some money to go out and have fun with some of her friends. She only went to sleep with people periodically. Rumduol has five other friends who do the same as her. They all have their own networking and they only sleep with special customers.

Rumdoul is a nickname that was given to her to hide her identity. Rumdoul just turned 18 years old this year. She started to sell her body for the first time in February, 2011. Even before until now, she kept hiding this from her family.

The interview was taken place in an Ice Tea shop. She was telling all the truth. She said the reason that she sold her body not because her family is poor. Her dad is a civil servant and her mom is a shopkeeper. Her family is a middle class family. Her family doesn’t need anything. First of all, in 2010, I had a boyfriend whose father is a high ranking officer. At that time, we always went out together, especially when I was free from my study. We went to bars, clubs and karaoke. We went to most of the entertaining places in the city. He always paid when we went out together, but sometime I also paid too. Sometime I skipped my class in order to go out with him; however I had to make sure that I was home by the time my class dismissed in order to not let my dad doubt about it. Every time I had extra classes, I mostly skipped those classes.

At that time, my boyfriend and I, we really loved each other so much and we also planned to get marriage together, however thing didn’t turn out as expected. I felt like I lost everything that happened in 2010 when my boyfriend and I were having a really big and serious argument. I caught him with another girl, so I broke up with him since then. After I broke up with him, I didn’t have any other boyfriends. However, I was really fine with my life, because I always went out with my friends. We always went out every time we wanted to go. Normally, we always went out together after our classes dismissed. We went to clubs, bars and karaoke. At that time, the money that I used for going out was the money that I saved from the money that my parents gave me. However, after continuously going out, I lacked of money. I had more demands and the money that my parents gave me was only enough for my study. When I had a boyfriend, he was the one who always paid for me.



One day, one of my female friends called me to go out and at that time, I didn’t have money. So I told her that I didn’t have money. Don’t worry about money and I will pay for you, she said. Therefore, I went out with her and while we were hanging out together one of my female friends told me that if you want to have more money to go out, you should think of selling your body. However, you should only do it periodically in order to not let other people notice it and your family knows it and I will be your mamasan. First, I was really hesitated to do it, but after one month and because I wanted to have more money to go out like before, so I decided to do it. Then, my friend brought me a customer. He is a rich man, probably 40 years old. He drives a very expensive car. After he saw me, he agreed to give me $150, but I didn’t accept it, because I thought he is a rich man, so I asked for $250. He agreed, then he brought me to a hotel in 7 Makara district, Phnom Penh. I slept and stayed with him for almost 3 hours and he gave me the money afterward. Two months later, he called me to sleep with him again and this time he gave me $400, because he heard that I wanted to change my motorbike.

Later on, he always called me to sleep with him. He is a kind man and he always gave me money. In total, I slept with him for 5 times. Because I was afraid that my family would know about it, so I changed my phone number and stopped staying connected with him and I also stopped doing it for a while. However, two months later, I wanted to go out and hang out with my friends again, so I decided to do it again. This time, my friend brought me another customer. He is almost 50 years old and he is a high ranking officer. Because he really like and love me, so he gave me $800. Then, after I spent all those money, I always did it again and again. Four or five of my friends who are also student like me are doing the same thing, however we only do it to get money to have fun.

Rumduol said, because she always went out and skipped many classes, so she couldn’t go to school regularly; as a result, she had to study in grade 11 again. She added, there was a high ranking military guy who really like and love her. She told him that she wanted to change her motorbike, so he gave her $1800 after she slept with him two times. After that she turned off her phone and started spending that money. She turned her phone back on when she ran out of money and continued to earn money that way again and again.

Everyday Rumduol goes to school like other student, but when her friend calls her to go out after class; she will bring a set of normal clothes along. She left the house with student uniform and will get it changed after class in the bathroom or the bathroom at the gas station or the bathroom at the garden.

Rumduol added, because my parents are really busy with their works, so they didn’t have time to follow me. They didn’t realize that I skipped classes and have done all these things. They only knew that I went out a lot and always told me to not going out that much.

I find it funny that the article uses a nickname in order to hide her identity, but shows photos of her. Even though there is no facial shot - I am 100% sure that if she was my daughter, I'd be able to identify her from those!

She was only 13 when going to bars and clubs with her BF, and started selling her body at 14. Wow.

It's her body.
At least she's making her own decisions - good or bad.

Didn't say that I agree with her decision, but in this case at least she has a say in what she's doing - she is not being sold by others. Unfortunately, she is being neglected by her parents, and left to herself she's making bad choices. She feels free, but she's not.

I think that one day soon she will come to her senses and realise that she is worth more than this. I hope so. What seems like easy money is not free, and she will probably get this eventually.

Cambodia or elsewhere, rich or poor - kids need their parents. Especially teenagers who think they know it all.

Personally I don't think those are her real pictures. If they planned to post her real pictures , they would not give her nickname. I have read lot of Khmer articles and the writer always add pictures.

When I was young and skint... I'd have sold my body if only anybody had been willing to pay for it... this is non-news it's consensual Khmer on Khmer prostitution. Her age may be shocking in the West but it's pretty much the norm in Asia. This country isn't even a generation away from the farm yet.

She is too young, she shouldn't know the evil world in her early age. It is because she thought she's lost everything and easy to make more mistakes. Now she becomes a girl who can't live without other's money. I heard few friends did like this too when I was at high school. Most of parents don't spend enough time on the children and then their children are easy to associate with wrong people. I admit that my parents were too strict to me and almost know everything about me so if i'm strange, they'll notice.

It's not too late to make your own decision when you're old enough.
