No, they are probably considered "Arab".Alex wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 10:44 pmAre people from Türkiye even "barangs"? I can't think of a worse place to stay in miles. Not blaming the Turk, just wondering what he was thinking of staying around there at all?
I realize that I should ask my Khmer friends this question instead, but since I'm currently in Yuon Country, I'll give it a shot here lol.

Barang means FRENCH especially as language (and not english as i thaught before) and for the people it means a white tall guy with a big noose (no joking). Chinese or Indians are not barang, Turkishis a good question, i agree they would be called ARAB. And Africans are not Barang either, probably they have an other special word for that, i remember in Phuket three years back they called them "chocolat-men" !!LamarFreddie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 3:12 amI was under the impression that "barang" means any foreigner but I could have misunderstood or have been misinformed. Which foreigners are not barangs?Alex wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 10:44 pmAre people from Türkiye even "barangs"? From what I heard from people I know who live in the area, village 10 or Boon Dop as the locals call it, the Turkish guy had been living there for a while and had often been causing problems when drunk. This is just what I was told, but it seems pretty unanimous from the locals.

So one must be actually struck by a hammer, to justify a response to a hammer attack? One could also look at it another way and say their preemptive lethal force is what kept them from getting injured in the first place, since a single well-placed hammer attack can be instantly fatal and is nothing to take lightly.Kammekor wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 7:32 amThe six who killed the Turk look remarkably unharmed for people nearly hammered to death.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 9:41 pmFinish him off?Kammekor wrote:No sir!HaifongWangchuck wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 6:39 pm
I'm merely assessing this situation based on eyewitness reports and the news, same as everyone else: If anything has anything else to add, then perhaps I was hasty to judge, but based on this information alone, it sounds like he was dealt with accordingly: None of us would let a man with a hammer attack our girlfriends or wives, would we?
Our immediate response would be to call five family members / friends to finish him off with the six of us.
Justice for all!
First the foreigner guest dropped an ashtray at almost hit someone’s son. When the wife went to inquire why he did it, instead of apologizing, he attacked her with a hammer. When the husband when to protect the wife, the guy also attacked him with the hammer. The husband called for reinforcements.
I bet the guy was still trying to hammer then all and was overwhelmed with numbers.
They weren’t just killing the poor unfortunate foreigner because he used a hammer on the lady. They were trying to stop him for hammering others to death.
He was out to murder people but instead got murdered himself.
At least my read on things.
Do you know there are two police stations just over a hammer throw away from that spot?
My take is is booze and probably drugs are involved, given the location where it happened.

You mean tell me he was an entitled drunk who shat on the locals and treated it like they were going to remain calm and collected? Why doesn't this surprise me at all?

It's all about proportionality.
It seems things escalated too fast in this case, which is not a real surprise given the area

Why? What is it that makes all the eyewitnesses, accused, and local reports of jackass behaviour on the part of Ufuk, that makes the villagers immediately incredible (in the literal sense)? Why is Ufuk so trustworthy and innocent?
Perhaps you are right, but in the heat of the moment of a crazed drunk swinging a hammer at all directions (already after he almost drops an ashtray on the kids head), I'm not surprised they got carried away.
They should get off at best (they may be quietly released when this all dies down), light manslaughter charges at most.
