That likely depends on your home country and your situation there.Cooldude wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 11:42 amIf you are a foreigner coming to live in Cambodia and all you can afford is a place in Village 10 in Phnom Penh, you made a huge mistake by leaving your home country.KevinTan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 11:21 amNot all barangs in Cambodia are rich expats.John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 1:04 am What kind of foreigner stays in village 10? I can't think of a worse place to stay in miles. Not blaming the Turk, just wondering what he was thinking of staying around there at all?
And some people just like slumming.

It's a step up for most Turks. Turkey is a third-world country pretending to be first-world. Pretty sure some slum residents in PP have better living standards than most Turks.Cooldude wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 11:42 amIf you are a foreigner coming to live in Cambodia and all you can afford is a place in Village 10 in Phnom Penh, you made a huge mistake by leaving your home country.KevinTan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 11:21 amNot all barangs in Cambodia are rich expats.John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 1:04 am What kind of foreigner stays in village 10? Probably. It's not an area I would like to get into trouble in.Stravaiger wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 2:27 pmI'd agree with that, and add that it was also likely a culmination of previous disputes and perceived slights.

Are people from Türkiye even "barangs"? How white and/or Western do you have to be to be considered a "barang"?KevinTan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 11:21 amNot all barangs in Cambodia are rich expats.John Bingham wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 1:04 am What kind of foreigner stays in village 10? I realize that I should ask my Khmer friends this question instead, but since I'm currently in Yuon Country, I'll give it a shot here lol.

I was under the impression that "barang" means any foreigner but I could have misunderstood or have been misinformed. Which foreigners are not barangs?Alex wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 10:44 pmAre people from Türkiye even "barangs"? I would bet my last 50$ on this.Soriya wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 5:29 amNot 1 of them look like they were hit by a hammer, you would assume the way the story reads that at least 1 would get hit and injured. Especially if he was fighting for his life.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 9:41 pmFinish him off?Kammekor wrote:No sir!HaifongWangchuck wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 6:39 pm
I'm merely assessing this situation based on eyewitness reports and the news, same as everyone else: If anything has anything else to add, then perhaps I was hasty to judge, but based on this information alone, it sounds like he was dealt with accordingly: None of us would let a man with a hammer attack our girlfriends or wives, would we?
Our immediate response would be to call five family members / friends to finish him off with the six of us.
Justice for all!
First the foreigner guest dropped an ashtray at almost hit someone’s son. When the wife went to inquire why he did it, instead of apologizing, he attacked her with a hammer. When the husband when to protect the wife, the guy also attacked him with the hammer. The husband called for reinforcements.
I bet the guy was still trying to hammer then all and was overwhelmed with numbers.
They weren’t just killing the poor unfortunate foreigner because he used a hammer on the lady. They were trying to stop him for hammering others to death.
He was out to murder people but instead got murdered himself.
At least my read on things.
In all likelihood, he did drop the ash try, the khmers took it as intentional and went and beat him to death. They then planted the hammer and colluded together for their back up story.
