It was a fuckin Prius, one assumes it was in silent mode and the tuk decided to "just roll through" as ya do!

Not trying to apportion blame here, just discussing safety. Two of the first Passapp auto-rickshaws I got here freaked me out with their driving. They are very low down compared to the trailer-style tuk-tuks, and the front wheel is almost below the driver so they can turn very quickly, and they are very nippy. I had this idea that they might be more structurally solid than the trailer ones, but then there was that accident near Independence where a large bike hit one and it landed on its roof, the back was completely crushed. Fortunately there were no passengers. Now this tragedy. I might be taking more of Passapp cars in the future, or just the older style tuk-tuks.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

They also seem to struggle with the whole gear clutch accelerator thing. They’re not that easy to ride (like an old Vespa) but not that hard.
I avoid them now because they’re so uncomfortable and hot.

The normal tuk is only slightly more expensive than the Indian one, on pass app. I usually choose the old style ones for comfort.
Don't know about the safety record of both.

My deepest condolences.
I have just been reading this site gathering info for a trip. But I saw this news and decided to check out the band. I purchased Electric Blue Boogaloo and listened to it twice on my bus ride home. I'm very happy I found the band but sad how I found them.
I created an account just to say that even though she's tragically gone, she and the band can still touch the hearts of new people.

Amen to all that.Captain Bonez wrote:I do admit that post is quite brutal, but I'm angry now and venting. It grinds my gears so hard when i see the amount of super unnecessary accidents and deaths on the roads here that could have been quite easily prevented with just a little forethought and consideration for others on the road. I've been hit by people before and that wouldn't have happened if they'd literally just learn how to use lanes, give way, and stop at a red light. That's all simple basic shit you learn fairly early on in your driving lessons. I've even been shunted from behind because some fool got in the 'left hand turn lane' where i was waiting to turn left, so he could try and go straight ahead instead and beat traffic. I just so happened to be in his way and he started to push me over so he could perform his illegal driving. He was quite clearly in the wrong yet he persisted in nearly knocking me off my bike, great logic.
Most Cambodians are such awesome, happy, nice people IMO who literally will give you the last spoonful of rice off their plate if you just so happen to be walking by and look hungry, if they could just extend that same courtesy and kindness to the roads, then it'd be a much safer and nicer place to drive. Unfortunately though i see the complete opposite in my 20+ commutes across the city every week and i dont expect really to see any change in driving styles anytime soon. The amount of SUVs i see steaming through a red light whilst the driver is using the phone is through the goddamn roof. Cops could make some good coin if they actually hopped on their bike and chased that dude down and had the balls to fine the driver, wouldnt be so hard to catch an SUV here either as it's hard for them to get through traffic.
Cambodians are the most laid back, take life and time as it comes kind of folk, until they moment get control of a vehicle. Then they drive like they're 3 days late to their own funeral.
Don't get me started on the utter cunt queue jumpers enabled by the new turning lanes.

Those older tuktuks crumple just the same, if not easier than the rickshaws. I saw one near upside down next to independence monument once with an SUV on it's side next to it. As you can imagine, those flimsy posts that hold the roof up on a regular tuktuk aint no rollcageJohn Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Mar 20, 2018 7:19 pm Not trying to apportion blame here, just discussing safety. If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

Thought it would be an apt time to ask, as I am sure many people would like to see it too,
Does anybody know where its possible to view the documentary about Channthy? 'Rocking Cambodia: Rise of a Pop Diva' Can't seem to find it anywhere online!
