Singaporean Lover Seriouly Injured After Hacked by Husband

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I agree that it is a double standard and it’s not fair. In the West and in some north east asian countries there is greater push for equality between the sexes and including which words are used.

Now, in some American universities professors have to ask what pronoun the students wish to be called and there is a push to find gender neutral pronouns instead of he or she. Personally, I don’t understand what’s going on over there in American anymore, but gender equality is important in Cambodia and I realize things are unfair.

However, maybe because you and your generation know it is not fair, you and your generation will be able to change things in Cambodian society in the future? :thumb:

If it makes you feel better you can call me butterfly although I am not one; I am a moth.
Hehehe I'm trying to change, but people call me a boy. We women need you guys to help us to make it equal too. Hehe yes call you butterfly is funny ... Hashas but I won't offend you or anyone. :)

Little salary, for the same behaviour women are judged differently from men because it is the men who decide what is acceptable in most societies. If it was the women who decided what is or is not acceptable, then things would be diffferent.
Whatever, I personally don't think that it is ok to call any woman names because she chooses to sleep with whoever. I don't think that is any of my business.
But as I said before, I think that " butterfly" has a different meaning in Khmer than English. In English it's not so bad. :?:
Yes, not you or all men do it. Most of time women are judged but people don't notice.
For example: we women are called Miss , Mrs or Ms But men is only Mr.
in Khmer we still can recognize women who are married or not yet by calling their title.

I just hope that men will understand than women don't like to be judged because she is not a suspector.

What if she is already married, as in the OP?
Don't mind. The principle is that women should not be shamed for doing things that are ok for men. If it's shameful for women, then it is shameful for men.
Personally, i believe in being as honest as possible to just about everyone*. Cheating on someone that you have said you will be faithful to is dishonest - male or female.
*Just about everyone, except for banks, insurance companies and the police. :D

In the western world a Male Butterfly would be called a Player...

in England the modern Male equivalent to a "Butterfly" is a "Snake"
Girls will call a boy a snake if hes chatting to/flirting with/sleeping with many women,
if you are Snaking, it means you are Flirting with someone/Chatting them up purely with the intention to sleep with them

Being labeled a Snake/Player is definitely not seen as a good image, and once you have been labeled one its a hard one to shift as girls dont trust players/snakes

It makes sense when you explain it. Sneak is not an offensive word for Cambodians. but if you call a man " Ah Veak", it means the man is stupid that doesn't know his girl is cheating him. Veak is same name of a kind of sneak, cobra.

continue from little salary explanation, it is really bad when someone called you ah veak and every men actually wished not to be called ah veak. This word is really offensive. As little salary explained it means you are stupid and you don't know that your wife or girlfriend cheated you and even though you knew that she cheated, you wouldn't do anything and just let her do it, because you are afraid that you will lose her.

Veak here literally mean ladle. Cambodians believed that ladle is just a thing that people could use to do whatever they want and they can decide how they want to use it. We used it to symbolize the stupid man.

Should we have another thread: have you ever called Ah Veak?

If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.
