Khmer has so much vocabulary, many words I use are not precise enough to my liking even if they fit in a sentence.
Most Cambodians around me, my wife included can't really explain me the words I ask them to define for me; I btw often wondered if it was a cultural thing as it always seems the case when in english you can have someone explain you a meaning using easier words.

Add to that the absolute necessity to see the words in writing to understand their pronunciation and have a remote chance to remember them since they aren't everyday street easy words could explain why my khmer didn't improve much the last 5 years.
Maybe only reading can help me but until now that collided with my khmer way of avoiding difficult things
