Sihnaoukville: weed dealer arrested with 6 kg of weed
Re: Sihnaoukville: weed dealer arrested with 6 kg of weed
Would be even more helpful with a link to the original source so that those who can read Khmer could go to the Cambodian news website and read it in its original format.General Mackevili wrote:Good question. Do you get income every time someone clicks on it?
For two lines of text that are completely innocuous and no one would ever hide them, not even Grandmother Grundy Google Madsense?
Anybody?
It's just so you can see the Google Translate Engrish if you so choose to. It's usually pretty bad and sore on the eyes, but sometimes a few of the words/sentences can be helpful. They're in a spoiler because they're generally garbage, but if you want to read it, it's right there for you.

Yeah, in a spoiler just to tidy up the page. Most Engrish looks terrible.
Meh, I think you'll survive.Rama wrote:Would be even more helpful with a link to the original source so that those who can read Khmer could go to the Cambodian news website and read it in its original format.General Mackevili wrote:Good question. Re: Sihnaoukville: weed dealer arrested with 6 kg of weed
Yes, I know most of the Cambodian news media websites and can normally find the source myself.
But I also think it's useful for learners to be able to compare a translation to the original Khmer. I was always fascinated and found it useful to compare Porky Pig's translations with the original. He was at an exceptional level, was far more intelligent than I, and had a gift with English and Khmer.
Most importantly I think it's important to credit and link to the original source so that the journalist/author/website can get credit for it/web page views. All I/you/we are doing is translating (as a hobby) another persons hard work. There also might be instances when someone might want or need to be able to reference a source in academic or journalistic work.
One of the reasons I don't post my translations here is that 'CEO News' translates and posts so many articles so quickly that you don't need my contributions. Although if the link was provided I would perhaps at times be tempted to offer alternative suggestions/translations.

Re: Sihnaoukville: weed dealer arrested with 6 kg of weed
I find Engrish fairly annoying and quickly learnt to skip over it on the other forum, preferring to wait for Rama's excellent translations. On occasion, if the story is very interesting, I have attempted to gist read it. Almost impossible. I do see Rama's point for Khmer learners, but only if the Khmer script was included and in a large enough font size to be able to read it without having to zoom. Original link would be good too.

Original Story line: Arrested for weed. Answer: The police don't like competition.

It looked like the perp could get pretty decent weed. Maybe that was the problem.

Rama, To be honest, all your translations you posted here before were excellent. I enjoyed reading them despite the fact that i can read and write khmer fluently. It is really sad that you decided not to post more. I hope you will post more.Rama wrote:Yes, I know most of the Cambodian news media websites and can normally find the source myself.
