Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. 31 January 2018
At 10am today, representatives of the Sihanoukville municipality came to mediate a construction workers' dispute at Emario Hotel and Resort, Group 30, Village 3, Sangkat 3, Sihanoukville. As of today, 31 January, the workers said that they have not been paid the last three months' wages due to them from their employer. According to the authorities, the owner Ms. Chou Rachar, a 48-year-old Khmer businesswoman, claimed that the delay in paying workers was due to a family problem (a case in court).
The workers, who were not paid their wages for November, December and January, decided to go on strike and barricade the resort entrance in protest.

The city officials asked the workers to compile a list of the names of the 457 unpaid workers, to be submitted at 2pm today at the provincial labor department. In return, at 11:20am the protesting workers agreed to remove machinery blocking the main entrance to the resort and await the results of the inquiry into the unpaid wages.

There was also a sit-in.

No further news on the wages, but a poignant statement from one of the women saying, 'please do not beat the poor workers, they need money to feed their belly, and the grocery shop has stopped giving them credit.'
