Sihanoukville: reports of up to 40 foreign passports lost or stolen.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

what are bangers? did you get sausages put into your passport?

true, that's why I said it. I may seem/read a bit redundant, but it doesn't make it not true.

bangers =bangkok
(just a wee bit of slang)
for future ref, I often refer to Pattaya as patters.
just to help you avoid any confusion.

hope that helps

cheers

I've only been to about 23 or 24 countries, most of those friendly enough to the USA that I got some sort of visa upon arrival, or...

when I was employed, my employer paid for some service to do it a few times-I assume they had someone do it.

cheers

Confusion over stolen foreign passports
Thursday, 09 February 2017

A bus company tasked with transporting a box containing 50 foreign passports from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville was unaware of its contents, according to its general manager.
The box was stolen from a Virak Buntham bus late last month, but almost all of the passports were recovered on Tuesday.

The passports had been collected from various travel companies in Sihanoukville late last month by VLK Royal Travel for visa extensions.
VLK Royal Travel used a logistics company, CPSTA, to transport the box of passports on a Virak Buntham bus on January 22.

Neou Keavirak, the general manager of Virak Buntham, said his company was not told about the contents of the box and was only paid 5,000 riel (about $1.20) by CPSTA to keep it at their office when it was stolen that night.
“I just reported to the police that the box was stolen. I didn’t know the box had the passports inside,” he said yesterday.

But 49 of the 50 stolen passports have been recovered by municipal police, according to an immigration police spokesman, yet he would not provide details about how they were recovered.

Mr. Keavirak said he was not informed that the passports had been recovered.
VLK representatives in Phnom Penh declined to comment and municipal police could not be reached...

I send high hundreds to thousands of items in taxi and buses to Phnom Penh every year. I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of times I was asked what was inside sealed boxes.

However, anytime it was something valuable or important I would let the driver know of this.

Never lost a single item this way so far.

But I have also never put a package on VK bus. Their reputation precedes them.

I wonder how many of the 49 already told their embassies about their misery. Having done so could mean the passport is devalued and VK is getting away with it as the lost goods were recovered. Ouch.
