Sihanoukville police are on the job!

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Thieves arrested! Whatever next ?

Four artful dodgers were scooped up by Sihanoukville police on Friday for their involvement in an Oliver Twist-style pickpocket ring, complete with an older fence pulling the strings.

Police said the boys, aged 14 to 15, work the beaches and had robbed a tourist as she swam on Thursday, grabbing a bag that contained two cellphones and $600 cash.

After grilling the teens, police were led to the twentysomething duo running the operation, the older of whom allegedly threatened the boys to produce every day

I just park my tank on the beach with a tripwires connected to hand grenades and leave my stuff inside.

Oh I bomb the beach with napalm and bring all my belongings into the water where the sharks protect me because I'm a gangster.

Laugh, but at least my stuff doesn't get stolen, ever! Do you feel 100% safe when you leave your valuables on a table/chair when you go in swimming at the beach or do other activities? Do you lock the door of your house/apartment or just leave it open? Do you leave your moto/car in the middle of the street unlocked with the keys in it? Why not look at your money/valuables the same way you look at where you live and/or your vehicle?

Because you are viewed as being rich, every hour of every day thieves in this third-world/poor country will be watching you. Don't be stupid, plan ahead. (Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.)

I actually think Sailorman's idea is pretty clever, but if this alarm is anything like many car alarms there are probably a lot of accidental triggerings.

Never had an accidental triggering. The ones I use have to be moved to alarm. The small one I use with a cable on the beach has a warning beep before it goes off and a light that blinks when it is armed. (its made to secure luggage.) The portable car alarm I use (it is suppose to attach to your steering wheel) when traveling can be attached to your valuables in your hotel room by a cable and has a remote/blinking light. They do not alarm unless moved.

A professional thief will get by most any alarm, but most here in the land of wonder are just amateurs and/or grab-and-run thieves. A little sound and a stout cable and they look to steal elsewhere.
