Sihanoukville maritime security was prepared for Water Festival crowds.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

They were quite close to shore when I was on the beach yesterday, they actually formed some sort of barrier between the swimmers and those arseholes on jetskis. I'm surprised at how few people have been caned in the head by those guys. So they did achieve something.

I'll volunteer for that job, if I can take some photos .

There is swimming and then there is rescue swimming. These are two different things. You go to rescue a drowning person and they can take you down with them. With the coastline, surfing and a big population on the coast(s) there should be some Australians here that have had some kind of swimming/rescue instruction.

I see the guys in the boat(s) in full uniforms that would become heavy if they jumped in the water. In the pictures I see no kind of rescue ladder and no suited rescue swimmer. One picture shows all the guys in the boat except the driver on one side of a tippy speedboat. With a rescue ladder, one rescuer can bring a person aboard the boat. I don't see any kind of life ring or paddle board that can be thrown to a drowning person instead of grabbing you and taking you under with them.

I like the idea of them fending off the as*holes on the jetski's, but when these guys go away the jetskis' come back. The only real answer is an exclusion zone around the swimming beach's with enforcement, fines and confiscation of the water craft, but that won't happen as just look at the way the traffic police enforce the laws (Not!)

Some jets skis now carry life rings on the rear and have been do so for a few months, I think after the last spate of unfortunate drownings.
