Sihanoukville Landlords test the Market at Crazy Prices

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Sihanoukville Landlords test the Market at Crazy Prices

Post by paparazzi »

Anyone hearing landlords testing the Chinese for crazy rents in Sihanoukville?

I am talking $1000 for a month nice room that would go for $250 last year.

The Khmer just can't afford Sihanoukville if this is true.

I guess its a supply and demand situation.

The 5 star Chinese casino/hotels need rooms for staff.

Down the bottom right of Karaoke Street about 60 Khmer and 10 Barang in the compound with about 3 blocks of rooms all given a month to get out yesterday.

It is a great deal for landowners. Ordinary Khmer may find living in Sihanoukville a challenge.

You can get a two bedroom 143 sq m fully equipped and serviced apartment in Chroy Changvar on the Mekong for $767 a month, with pool, sauna, gym, etc. If its not a lot better than this, time to move! :D

Koh Kong? The Chinese have plans there. The 7 dragons project to develop a string of resorts down the coast from Sre Ambel to KK have been on the back burner for a while but I believe the they have built at least one resort halfway down rte 48 on the beach. Can't imagine KK with multiple casinos but guess that they will come due to proximity to Thailand.

I don't find it much of a problem actually, especially if you can pick your traveling time, and avoid rush hours.

Life in Chroy Changvar is great unless you have places to go.
