Always tough to know what to do in these situations - stop, render assistance and face the real possibility of getting beaten to death, or flee and violate one's basic legal and moral obligations. It's a dilemma. Cambodians who I consider friends pretty much universally recommend the latter.

When in Rome .. , I guess ..
Love the 'tiny car' bit .. he's obviously very poor driving such a minuscule vehicle .. I'll lay odds it was the Khmer's fault ..

I think he is an expat. Tourist would not bother to buy a car. i might be wrong , but i don't think the mob would beat up the barang. Khmers have high respect for barang unless you are a complete prick.

Just the other night I saw Khmers set upon a barang who went down in some minor altercation that had already ended. They had no idea what it was all about but they were right there ready to kick and stomp on the guy for no other reason than he was down and vulnerable. And mob beat downs after car accidents is SOP here. I would put no faith in white skin stopping the mob. If you are going to stop after an accident, I think the only hope is to be very very visible in being seen trying to do the right thing, in being very contrite and calm and trying to help the victim or get help for the victim and offering to pay. And even then, I'm not sure what would happen.Samouth wrote:I think he is an expat. Tourist would not bother to buy a car. i might be wrong , but i don't think the mob would beat up the barang.
