Sihanoukville Beach Businesses Given a Month To Move Out

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

It really seems like it is a roll of the dice taking (and knowing) that kind of risk.

Is such a "chance" really so predictable? Perhaps in the long term (? whenever that might be?) but even in the short to medium term - personally speaking I know I would not be comfortable, I have seen similar situations heaps of times...not in Cambodia per se.

And not to say that I still don't still feel sorry for those people....

Very difficult if you have been trying to offload the liability to someone else knowing your time may be up (and within 1 month!) and people know about it... bucklees chance..

I would not have purchased a business at all knowing of the uncertainty - perhaps when these businesses were set up/purchased it was a while ago, and many people held a belief that seizure/reclaiming of government land would not come into fruition - particularly when the 'old network' was in existence, so to speak....

but yeah... ?

Maybe someone who has invested could shed some more light on the topic? Just a thought..

Regards

Yes, I heard that Jamie..... more people 'removed'.... it definitely is not a once off occurrence, anything near a 'waterline' - it has been going on for months..... Are the police still clamping down on motorcycle helmets?

What is the "go" with Apsara land?

I was looking at a place some months ago, and the advertiser said --- something along the lines of, "It is not Apsara land - although the blocks around are" - or words to that effect....

We'll have to catch up for a beer sometime (or anyone else who is interested for that matter) when you're/and others available and I am there :)

Off track, for a second, to be honest, I am really happy that I joined this forum, so many people have given me advice, pointed me in the right direction, and I am glad to be here talking to you guys :)

Thanks

S’Ville Beach Vendors Come to Phnom Penh to Protest Eviction Order
With the clock ticking down to a possible eviction on March 13, about 150 vendors and small business-owners from Sihanoukville’s Otres, Ochheuteal, and Damnak Sdech beaches submitted a petition yesterday asking the government to provide them with an alternate place to work...
Preah Sihanouk provincial governor Yun Min said that although he did not know what sort of compensation or relocation package the government would offer the businesses, the government would try to reduce the pain of the move. “I would like to ask the people to confide in the government and authority,” Mr. Min said....

The rest of the document is "government references" basically - so I am lead to believe (?) - but - yes it is the document for relocation/eviction...or however you would like to describe it.

It comes from the "Commanding Administrator" (?) of Sihanoukville

It is still being translated for you, but that is the crux of it. I will let you know when I have more.... or feel free to PM me..

thanks, sorry to hear that.

A basic translation - please excuse errors, I am just forwarding it straight through, I have not even read the document though, but it should give you the general idea, if I had more time obviously I would do a better job of having the document translated.... the best I could do in a short period of time. (Considering I do not live there, in Cambodia, as yet);

"The administration commander of Sihanoukville would like to announce to the people who have have stores, trade or self employed on the public beach of Otress, Ocherteal (in front of Sokha Hotel) and at the Tammany Vang Chas Kompomg Som that: the National beach of development and Management of Cambodia and the Admin Commander committee need to rearrange, decorate and development the beach location in Sihanoukville. In order to to get easily on management and keep environment continuity of the announcement date 01 February 2012 on the development of beach location of Cambodia. As the result the Admin Commander committee of Sihanoukville would suggest to the people who have traded, stores or any self-employed on the three locations mentioned above have to take off those stores away from the public beach of within a month in hereinafter. If the stores are not move within the period about the Admin Commander committee will take off those stores without responding to any ruin.

The Admin Commander committee hopefully that those people will support and follow this announcement go on well and success."

mmmmmmmmmmm.....

I understand there are some problems with the translation, but kindly read between the lines if you can... apologies....

regards
Gav
