I am afraid you are wrong on both accounts. Most bars are Khmer owned (though some are foreign-owned) and I do not think anyone gets rich on selling 50-Cent beers (or $1.50 Long Island Iced tea for that matter).

A barrel of Angkor is $22 or thereabouts. If you sell a lot (and I know one bar was doing 200 a month) you get big discounts and fee barrels. Even at list that is $22 for 20 litres. 20 litres is 60 330ml glasses which is $30 at 50c, so even if you are on the lowest rung you make 50% margin on beer.

Not as easy as that. In reality you might get 50 glasses so you'll make 5 bucks on a keg. Not enough since the tax man cometh around. And I can only think of one bar that maybe sells 200 kegs a month during high season.

The bar was in PP and he kept a spreadsheet because he was weighing beer in and out to stop the barrels being underweight and to check the till. Clever move. I was told he loses up to 1 litre a barrel. He was selling at $0.75 and it was really a loss leader. People stay in the bar for cheep beer and do not notice the price added onto the other drinks or the food

There are numerous ways of fiddling beer here including 1 litre jugs, 300ml glasses which some brewery staff allegedly supply on request

My mistake, I thought we were talking about Temple Town. It does not really work on Pub Street as a lot of people will hug the cheap beers and then go to the noodle stall for food. The guys who came in 10 or more years ago made money but a lot of them want to bail now.

Doesnt really work in phnom penh either now. Not enough tourists because they fly to snooky or siem reap, and not enough expats because they been chased out byt new visa rules

Wouldn't be surprised if half of it was isopropyl, actually I'm probably sure that if you buy a Long Island Iced Tea for $1:50 on the side of the road in Cambodia then you're drinking isopropyl and if you're lucky maybe some Mekong Whiskey

no, $.50 beers have zero profit, ur only hope is they will tire of drinking piss water an order a can where u can make $.25

As I already mentioned: I did not see any/ a lot beer at Pubstreet for 0,50. Most of them were more expensive. I did in the other Streets. Of course I did not check every single bar.

I must say, the long island ice tea tasted great and I wasn't sick although I dreank many.

How can you tell there is no isopropyl in any coctail (bar/street cart / shop)?

And my point was not to discuss that the barowners make a lot of money. I did not mind the prices so much although I just noticed that they were higher than in the other Streets.
But my point is Barowners of Pubstreet complaining about bad admosphere which they cause themselves.
