Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Fukn Chink cunts. Couldn't they have just brought the excavators in? Why the need for molotov cocktails?
Oh, sorry, wrong thread, this didn't happen in S/ville, so it can't be blamed on the chinks ay?

It took seven hours to get to the end of the fire that raged through the Rock Entertainment Center and eventually came to an end around 11pm on Tuesday night.

Dozens of fire vehicles were called to the scene as fire-fighters struggled to douse the flames. Access to the fire was difficult because of the building structure, and a hole was bulldozed in one of the building's walls in order to gain direct access to the fire. One fireman was overcome by smoke fumes and had to be evacuated from the fire zone.

Hundreds of people are expected to be out of work as a consequence of the fire.

Rumors on social media that there were two deaths in the Rock Center fire are unfounded according to officials from the Ministry of the Interior.

Officials confirm no deaths in Rock Centre fire
1 March 2018
Fire department officials from the Interior Ministry confirmed yesterday there were no deaths in the fire at the Rock Entertainment Centre on Tuesday night, but two firefighters were slightly injured while extinguishing the inferno.

The blaze happened at 4.30pm on Tuesday and firefighters finally got it under control at around 11pm. An excavator was used to break the side of the building to make it easier to spray water into middle of the complex.

Neth Vantha, head of the fire department, said rumours two people had died were not true, but two firefighters were injured while trying to put out the blaze. “Nobody died in room number 6 as some media said. We checked the room and we didn’t see anything,” he said.
“Only two firefighters were injured. Mr Doung Chansathya, 27, and Taing Menghong, 24, were sent to hospital for help.”

He added it was difficult to put out the fire because the road next to the centre was narrow and only one fire truck could go in at a time, causing the blaze to spread quickly.

“Luckily, we could control it before it spread even more. Our forces focused on three areas – the rear, middle and the roof,” he said, adding that about 40 percent of the building was damaged and more than 30 fire trucks were used.
