Re: Foreigner crashes his motorbike with traffic barrier
Apparently the man is Rick Barnes, who works for LanguageCorps Asia-Cambodia
According to one of his friends on Facebook, he is doing better than yesterday but has blood is his brain, and a Calmette doctor is saying he is "doing ok."
From Facebook:
Rick Barnes is better than yesterday but his body is pain and he has 1% of blood in his head but doctor said he is okay and he is going to leave the hospital 4-5 days more. Wish him better soon!!! God Bless him!!!!
Doesn't sound ok.

How much does one of these cost these days?

Get Serious.
In this case you are acting like an Arsehole.

Rick Barnes is a respected member of the Expat community and an upstanding gentleman. Any speculation about his intoxication is, simply put, only speculation. As for LanguageCorps, it is a well respected, and intensive English teacher training program (of which I am a graduate and gainfully employed) that produces some well prepared and knowledgeable teachers. This fact has much to do with the staff and the tight ship run by Mr. Barnes. Do yourself and others a service and try to be respectful. A very good man was badly injured and those are the only truly known facts. He has in his employ man Expats and Khmer staff who all care for and respect him. Thank you. That's all I have to say about that. Any further trolling will only show that whomever does it is a person who is not worthy of respect and enjoys making fun at the expense of someone else.

There's an easy way to tell if someone is drunk when driving in Phnom Penh.
You'll find their the only ones driving straight and not swerving to avoid all the pot holes, oh and of course, driving straight into stationary road barriers.

I don't see any asshole comments here.
When this news broke we only had the picture shot from the direction of his shoes, and you could see that his pants were tucked in.
Nobody was sure of his identity, and I was throwing as many revealing observations out there as I could.
Even once we got the second picture you couldn't ID him. I then noticed that his second to top button was buttoned, which raised my guestimated age of him another 10 years, putting it up to 50+ years old.
Were these guestimates wrong or something?
I believe that's fair speculation.Ox1985 wrote:Rick Barnes is a respected member of the Expat community and an upstanding gentleman. When someone is driving around Phnom Penh at 3:30am and hits a stationary object, speculating that he might have possibly been drinking is not a stretch of the imagination.
I drink and drive in Phnom Penh all the time, and I've yet to hit any stationary objects. I haven't hit any moving ones either.
I haven't even seen anyone speculate what he might have been up to at 3:30am, speeding around on a Moto for, but to speculate that he might have been drinking seems reasonable.
And of course, if any of his friends were with him that night, they are more than welcome to let us know that he WASN'T drinking.
And when he's better, he can come tell us himself if he was drinking on the night in question or not.
Nice of you to put in a good word for him.

Well, in fairness the other true known facts as reported in the albeit unsourced article is that he was driving really fast at 3:30 a.m. and hit a not new, obvious barrier in the middle of Sihanouk Blvd. The most likely cause of a high speed 3:30 a.m. one vehicle accident in Phnom Penh is drunkenness, regardless of whether the driver is an evil rich Khmer Lexus driver or a super nice expat who employs Khmers and other expats.General Mackevili wrote: A very good man was badly injured and those are the only truly known facts.

Well, since General Mackevili has been trolling about this as well as posting our cert, which includes my name, I find it necessary to point out, like others on here a few times, that it's an unsourced article. That's the bottom line. Actually you should have erased the date as well bc I'm fairly sure whose pic that is given how recent they graduated.
But how convenient and stereotypical of a story to post. Speculate all you want (the guy had 2-3 drinks that night) but if anyone has a moto accident and gets busted up, considering the health care here, he has my sympathy. For me, anyone that takes to the road at any hour in this city is taking a risk. It's sad really bc he's helped out a lot of people and doesn't want any type of recognition. Is it so far fetched to simply wish someone a speedy recovery?
