Rice Famers in Sangke District Went on Strike, Blocking The Road

Battambang : Around 10:45 am on 18 September 2016, rice farmers had blocked the national road number 5 with tractors right in front of Kampong Preng commune hall office in Sangke district as the price of rice went down and seeking for intervention from the concerning authorities.

The protest has caused a long of traffic jam along national road number 5 and the surrounding area.

Last week, the prime minister HE just released 20 millions dollar of national budget to intervene the drop of rice price.

Farmers Block Road Amid Rice Price Crisis

At least 400 farmers piled 100 tons of rice paddy across National Road 5 in Battambang province on Sunday morning, seeking a guaranteed minimum return for their harvest amid frantic government efforts to confront falling prices.

Since the middle of last month, there has been a steep drop in the average per-ton payment that millers are offering for rice paddy, from about $250 to $193 last week, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance on Friday.
