Teen Charged, Jailed for 2014 Rape of 8-Year-Old Girl

by Phan Soumy | June 10, 2016

An 18-year-old man was jailed on aggravated rape charges in Kandal province on Thursday for sexually assaulting his young neighbor on two occasions in 2014, police said.

According to a police report supplied by Sa’sang district police, Sina Tienlen first raped the girl at his house in the district’s Sa’ang Phnom commune after inviting the girl over to watch television when she was 8 years old.

“While she was lying down on a piece of wood, Tienlen stripped her pants down to her thighs and started touching her genitals” and proceeded to rape her, the report says.

“She screamed, ‘It hurts,’ so he stopped and she went back to her house.”

Exactly one week later, Mr. Tienlen raped the girl again while she was fetching water at a pond about 100 meters south of their village, it says.

10-Year-Old Girl Raped, Murdered in Prey Veng

by Phan Soumy | June 9, 2016

A 30-year-old man was arrested in Prey Veng province on Tuesday for raping and murdering his 10-year-old neighbor after convincing her to help him search for honeycomb in the forest, police said on Wednesday.

The suspect, Try Kimcheang, lived near the victim in Svay Antor district’s Popeus commune, according to provincial police chief Sreng Chea, and intercepted the young girl while she was riding a bicycle with her 4-year-old sister on Tuesday afternoon, on their way to deliver coffee to their father in a rice field.

“After she finished making coffee to bring to her father, she ran into the suspect and the suspect called her to look for bees. So she went with him,” Mr. Chea said.

When the 4-year-old agreed to take the coffee to her father alone, Mr. Kimcheang led the older girl into a nearby wood and raped her, he said, adding that the man flew into a rage when the victim began screaming and would not stop.

“The victim cried and cursed, and the suspect could not stand it,” he said. “So he strangled her.”

When the girl’s father noticed that his daughter was missing, he questioned the 4-year-old, who recounted her sister’s conversation with Mr. Kimcheang about collecting honeycomb and directed her father and a group of villagers into the forest, where the body was found, Mr. Chea said.

Cambodia has become very rapey, almost on a India scale, or is it just the reporting becoming more mainstream?

MEDIA RELEASE by Child Protection Unit

CPU, PREY VENG CID and CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATE THE RAPE AND MURDER OF A 10 YEAR OLD CHILD IN PREY VENG

The Child Protection Unit (CPU), a joint initiative between the Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) and the Cambodian National Police, have today assisted in the investigation of the Rape and Murder of a 10year old girl in Prey Veng. The incident occurred at approximately 3pm on the 7th of June 2016 in Khsourk Khang Choeung Villiage, Porpis Commune, Svay Anthor District, Prey Veng.

On the 7th of June, 2016 Chan Sokim a 10 year old girl in the company of her 4 year old sister set out from their home to walk approximately 1km to visit their father working in the rice fields. As they walked they spoke to a neighbor Try Kim Cheang who was working approximately 100m from the girl’s father and was known to the children. At this time it is alleged that he asked the deceased to go and find honey with him, which she did. The deceased’s 4yr old sister continued on and sat by her father.

At about 3.30pm on that day the father of the deceased and his 4yr old daughter returned home and noticed that the deceased had not yet returned.

At about this time the father of the deceased raised the alarm and called local police to help look for his daughter. A search of the immediate area was undertaken an at 4pm the body of the little girl was found partially naked among some bushes approximately 200m from where she had been last seen with the suspect.

The 30yr old male suspect was detained and initially denied any knowledge of the child’s disappearance. The CPU responded to the scene and assisted local crime scene technicians in processing the scene and the deceased. Several samples have been collected for DNA analysis. The CPU in the Company Of Forensic Police and CID members the conducted an examination of the suspect, DNA samples were taken for analysis and the suspects clothing was seized for examination. It was at this stage that the suspect made a further statement admitting to raping the child then strangling her. The statement made was consistent with evidence located at the crime scene.

The suspect Tri Kum Chein a 30 yr old male from the same commune will be presented to the Prey Veng Court and likely be charged with rape and aggravated murder. He stated in his confession he killed the girl because she was a cousin and knew him.

QUOTE (James McCabe - Director Operations) "Yet another murder, It is impossible to comprehend or understand this crime, an innocent child known to the offender attacked within sight of her home and her father its incomprehensible” RIP Little one.

This is the 16th Murder of a child under the age of 15 this year alone that the small dedicated CPU team has had to deal with.

Once again I wish to praise the efforts of all the CPU staff, Investigators who work alongside the Cambodian National Police, Child Protection Officers who care for and assist devastated families and all the support staff. You all do an amazing job. Many thanks for your commitment and dedication in what I know is difficult and distressing work.

Of course it's disturbing, but these rapes and murders won't go away just because you find it in bad taste to report them. Children are being raped and murdered by their family, friends, neighbours. This is repulsive and disgusting behaviour, and it needs attention.
By looking at this thread, you can see quite clearly that every week there are news reports of child rape, gang rape and murder-rape. How can it be a bad thing to draw attention to this problem ? Why should it remain a dirty secret ? Better lance the boil, see the pus, then do something about it, rather than stick a band-aid over it and pretend it's not there.
And you think a thread like this is going to do ANYTHING to help? Obviously the PEOPLE don't like this and some of these guys ARE caught and jailed. If not for long enough, outcry from Khmers might help, but a thread with countless "hang the scum" comments won't do dick shit.

If there are any law enforcement ppl they might volunteer to assist local gov/police which would show expat desire to help. This thread is not doing anything. Corruption? a much bigger problem...everyone says, eh, nothing you can do.

Of course if the OP's intent is to show how backward and lacking Cambodia is, this thread might help

Man Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Children

by Khy Sovuthy | June 11, 2016

Police arrested a man in Koh Kong province on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting his friend’s two young daughters over the course of a day and a night.

Chhim Rady, 25, had been asked by his friend to take the girls to school, but when he picked them up from their house in Mondol Seima district at 1 p.m. on Thursday, he told them that he was taking them to see a waterfall instead, according to deputy district police chief Mak Ny.

After driving to a secluded area on a nearby mountain, he raped the 8-year-old five times and sexually molested the 4-year-old at least once, Mr. Ny said.

“The suspect confessed to raping the older sister and assaulting the younger sister,” he said. “He took away the two children for a night to rape them.”

The girls’ parents told police about their missing daughters on Friday morning and Mr. Rady was arrested shortly thereafter, upon returning with the children, he said.

Mr. Ny said the older girl told police that she was raped three times before nightfall and twice after dark.

“This activity was very cruel,” he said, adding that the suspect had tested positive for drugs and would be sent to the provincial court on Saturday.

Convicted Child Rapist Nabbed After Another Rape

by Phan Soumy | June 13, 2016 | អានជាភាសាខ្មែរ

A construction worker convicted in absentia in 2014 for raping a minor was arrested in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district on Friday night after allegedly sexually assaulting another girl earlier this month, a police official said on Sunday.

Deputy district police chief Mao Soeut said police tracked down 29-year-old Meas Sophanet in his home village in Niroth commune at about 9 p.m., arresting him six days after the latest alleged attack.

Mr. Soeut said the suspect confessed to the rape of an 8-year-old girl under police questioning.

“He said he grabbed and dragged the girl into the banana plantation. He stripped off her clothes” and raped her, he said. “She screamed because she was in pain, so he stopped and escaped.”

The victim told police that Mr. Sophanet had threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the attack.

The deputy police chief said the suspect’s telling of events was the same as the victim’s and that police were completing their report on the case and expected to send Mr. Sophanet to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court this afternoon.
