Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

PHNOM PENH - The National AIDS Authority has prepared 40,000 condoms to distribute to people during the festival this year in Phnom Penh to stop the spread of HIV and help mitigate the problems arising from HIV / AIDS, said Teng Kunthy, secretary-general of the National AIDS Authority.

According to the National AIDS Authority, the percentage of HIV infections has dropped from 1.7 percent of the population aged 15 to 49, down to only 0.71 percent, But as a reminder, Teng Kunthy cautioned people that during the coming festivities, you can forget AIDS, but AIDS will never forget you.

Wow, the water festival as Saturnalia. That puts a different light on it - not to mention the symbolism of all those canoes. :sex:
What's the book ?

What's worse than a hole in your boat?

Finding a hole in your condom. Or if you're really unlucky, finding a condom in your hole.

They need a lot more than 40,000 condoms every year when all those cows are brought to Phnom Penh for the Royal Ploughing Festival.

They are also offering free HIV testing :thumb:
The National AIDS Authority is distributing 60,000 free condoms to boat racers and patrons celebrating the Water Festival this week in order to help curb the spread of sexually transmitted infections.

Teng Kunthy, secretary-general of the National AIDS Authority, said education was also being offered to people as the condoms were handed out.

“We hope this campaign provides more education to people about AIDS and HIV and that they protect themselves,” he said.

He said the campaign mostly focussed on distributing condoms to places where boat racers will be camping over the three-day festival, which kicked off yesterday.

The campaign also offered free HIV testing.

HIV testing is pretty pointless unless they've already got it. As far as I know, it takes several weeks to even be detectable.

From the CD in November 2015:
. . . . what are known as “rapid HIV tests,” conducted on the spot with just a drop of blood from the finger.

He explained that after collecting the samples, the staffers took them to a nearby laboratory, where a quick HIV test took only 15 minutes to run. Those who tested negative would be informed quickly, while those with positive results would be asked to come into the NGO’s office for another blood test. If the diagnosis was confirmed, they would quickly receive medication and counseling.
