The owner of a well-known sand dredging operation at the base of the Prek Samrong Bridge in Sangkat Prek Thmey, Khan Chbar Ampov was arrested and sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court this morning, January 26, 2021, charged with non-compliance with trade rules, breach of trust, and forgery of public documents.
The arrested suspect, Long Phillip, male, 42 years old, resides in Bao Angkanh Village, Street 11, Sangkat Prek Thmey, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh.
As for the reason why the military police arrested the suspect, it was because he did not show up when summoned by the police and obey a previous order to appear before the court.
In connection with the arrest, Long Phillip confessed to military officials that he ran a business called MPL Sand Dredging at the base of Prek Samrong Bridge in Sangkat Prek Thmey, Khan Chbar Ampov, and in 2017 he borrowed US $ 20,000 from Dharma Say Seng Thai to pay taxes on cars ordered from Dubai to import into Cambodia, but this money was not enough, so he asked for an additional loan of 30,000 dollars. With each loan, he issued a check and submitted a land title to secure the debt of $ 48,000 to pay the import taxes on 12 luxury cars.
However, according to Long Phillip, when he resold the cars, the new owners did not pay him in time to pay off his debt. He is being questioned by the Phnom Penh Court prosecutors.
