Porn should be censored in Cambodia: Adhoc report
There is no denying that there is some sick shit happening in Cambodia, but I'm not sure that you can blame it on porn.
Drugs and alcohol are definite factors. Also might help if the rapists were held more accountable for their acts ..Pornography is contributing to Cambodia’s rising problem with rape and should be subject to censorship, according to a new report from rights group Adhoc.
The Report on the Situation of Women and Children’s Rights During the First Semester of 2015, released yesterday, noted that in the first six months of this year, Adhoc registered 131 cases of rape.
Among those attacks, 100 were committed against underage girls, including 37 cases involving girls below the age of 10.
The report also noted an increase in rapes being committed by men against their elderly mother-in-laws, “often older than 80 years old”, as well as fathers raping their daughters, grandfathers raping their granddaughters, and male minors raping younger girls.
“There are clearly deteriorating moral values to be observed in Cambodian society,” the report states.
The report suggests easy access to pornography online and at markets combined with drug and alcohol abuse is a contributing factor in this deterioration, calling for the government to impose strict censorship...
http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/c ... graphy-ngoAmong rape cases reported, Adhoc’s head of women and children’s rights section Chhan Sokunthea said just 47 had resulted in convictions.
The rest remain unresolved or closed with compensation payments that allow rapists to escape prison sentences – which the report states are often encouraged by local authorities

More non evidence based knee jerk policy. I wish these people would read the research!Anchor Moy wrote:There is no denying that there is some sick shit happening in Cambodia, but I'm not sure that you can blame it on porn.Pornography is contributing to Cambodia’s rising problem with rape and should be subject to censorship, according to a new report from rights group Adhoc.
Considered together, the available data about pornography consumption and rape rates in the United States seem to rule out a causal relationship, at least with respect to pornography availability causing an increase in the incidence of rape. One could even argue that the available research and self-reported and of official statistics might provide evidence for the reverse effect; the increasing availability of pornography appears to be associated with a decline in rape.
Whatever the explanation is, the fact remains that crime in general, and rape specifically, has decreased substantially for the last 20 years. Concurrently, availability of pornography has increased steadily in the
last 20 years. These data give the impression of a catharsis effect; that exposure to pornography may actually provide a means to alleviate sexual aggression

The above research relates to four industrialised countries. The research below relates to India and comes to similar conclusions.
Sexual Crime in India: Is it Influenced by Pornography?
CONCLUSION:
Results presented needs to be interpreted with extreme care and caution. Nevertheless, the results from this study suggest that easy access to pornography did not have a significant impact on rape rates and crime rate against women. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24860215

Re: Porn should be censored in Cambodia: Adhoc report
Censoring porn is another one of those "quick fixes" for society's ills, and one of those "go to" reasons for the nation's (moral) decline.
It's also one of those things that a lot of people actually do but don't want to be seen doing - and so it's not a popular cause to defend publicly. Much easier to stash your magazine/hide your online history and agree that pornlovers are perverts.
As for Cambodian porn habits - I have no idea at all. Anyone know if paper porn is common among Cambodians ? Online porn is pretty much uncontrollable anyway.
It definitely sounds like a good idea to pass yet another law against something that nobody does and which won't be enforced.

Re: Porn should be censored in Cambodia: Adhoc report
I have watched countless internet porn flicks and never raped anyone in my life
Edit: actually it all started well before internet age. At the age of 10, alone in my father's home, his 20kg Amsterdam sourced 70's magazines porn collection fell on me, avalanche style, while exploring on top of a unstable suitcase.
While putting it back where it belonged I had the opportunity of discovering any possible existing sexual activity. 35 years later, I never raped anyone...

Is bakkaki a new thing or is the honorable General talking about “bukkake”?General Mackevili wrote:Me too. I do get bakkaki urges sometimes though.Barang_doa_slae wrote:I have watched countless internet porn flicks...

You can satisfy your bukkake urges at cafe sushi in SHV. A delicious order made of an ikura sushi and 2 spicy salmon rolls topped with a delicious bukkake salmon egged topping... 13$General Mackevili wrote:Me too. Edit: I loved the waitresses expressions when I told them what most people bukkake understanding was...
Re: Porn should be censored in Cambodia: Adhoc report
^^I had to admit that it was actually an American who "informed" me what bukkake "is". Up to that point I had no idea.
Actually I something I would be concerned about for Cambodia is how naive some are towards the internet. To me it seems natural to know the difference between reality and online fantasy BS, but the amount of Khmer I've seen that take everything on the internet literally, and possibly to "heart" is worrying to me.
Although I don't think porn can be easily censored if at all, rape porn films or what have you might have the opposite effect on Cambodians vs. Westerners. Why? In my opinion, a lot of Westerners know it's taboo to rape someone, so the sexual urges get taken to porn, webcams, etc, but here in Cambodia I can imagine a bunch of unruly kids watching some gangbang rape flick and then thinking "Hey, that'd go really well with some hot girls..." the rest is history sort of thing.
Just some quick musing on the matter.

Re: Porn should be censored in Cambodia: Adhoc report
Yeah, porn itself isn't the problem. I agree with ae86's post above, as it does seem Khmer are more likely to interpret rape as acceptable if seen on the internet. Even so, what is the percent of Khmer with access to the net? It seems this is just some more BS, where you try to tackle a problem by addressing something else entirely. Anyone remember when they banned marriage between western men over 50 and Khmer women? That was somehow in response to child brides even though the actual legislation had Nada to do with it
