Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Police shut down gambling den, arrest owners
May 4, 2018
Authorities arrested 11 people, including the owners of a internet cafe, during a raid on an illegal online gambling den in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.

Major Neth Chanthan, a police officer with the Anti-Commercial Crimes Department with the Interior Ministry, said that 11 suspects, including the owners and general managers of the den, were arrested.

Maj Chanthan said the raid was carried out at about 4.40pm, when police collaborated with Phnom Penh Municipal Court to inspect Internet 365 Shop in Boeng Trabek commune over illegal gambling.

“The suspects were gamblers betting on football games online,” Mr Chanthan said. “They were arrested after police raided the shop.”

Mr Chanthan said that after the raid, police managed to confiscate a total of 35 computers, 12 motorbikes and other gambling-related materials at the internet cafe.

He added that police have accused the owners of operating a gambling den without a license. The owners and managers face two to five years in prison if convicted.
The other seven suspects were accused of illegal gambling, an offence that could lead to one week to a month in prison.
