True, but most Americans don't have maids in the first place, I have to say.Gardiguy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2017 12:56 pm Maid abuse isn't a racial or nationality issue, it is simply rich assholes abusing those that they have power over

They may be ignorant, they may be arrogant - but they usually don't have maids (if they have a choice). True? And they often tip.
Is it the new HK-ese, under China that's abusing maids? Weird.
Malaysia is nice, but inside homes there is often a strict culture underneathe it all.
I think the British are generally good with maids, aren't they? Part of their culture?

Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint.
Even then, don't come knocking...Not for ANY reason.

Fears for workers heading to Saudi
January 26, 2018
The Labour Ministry is re-examining the sending of Cambodian workers to Saudi Arabia in an effort to ensure the country protects human rights and ensures good working conditions.
Labour Ministry officials yesterday met with officials from the Saudi Fund for Development led by its deputy director Eng Yousef Ibrahim Al Bassam.
Speaking with reporters after the meeting, Labour Ministry secretary of state Pich Sophorn said the two nations had recently signed an agreement that would send Cambodian workers to the Middle Eastern kingdom.
However, he added, the ministry is now scrutinising the decision to send workers there until Saudi Arabia can ensure acceptable working conditions.
“Cambodia will send workers to Saudi Arabia when they can guarantee good conditions for our workers,” he said. In the meeting, SFD proposed the provision of $20 million in loans to the Cambodian government for unspecified projects...

Are they joking? Expecting SA to respect human rights when they've just done what they have to their own citizens at home. Perhaps they meant reject human rightsCEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 8:24 pm Fears for workers heading to Saudi

Re: Plugging the Maid's Gap.
Cambodia wants to discuss acceptable conditions for migrant workers to Saudi Arabia. If you are concerned about workers rights, then it has to start somewhere, and surely it is better for Cambodians who work in Saudi to have some sort of protection, rather than the status quo where the workers are being exploited by illegal brokers who answer to no one.Abc123 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 8:40 pmAre they joking? The two recent cases of repatriated Saudi maid/slaves show that Cambodians will go and work abroad illegally if they cannot find migrant work officially.
Personal attacks on posters here makes no sense btw. Does not advance the debate. Ideas should be defended, but when you get personal, it derails the thread into a snark-contest. If you have ideas you want to defend, then do it positively, otherwise you turn everyone against you and nobody listens.
For sure you will never convince people by insulting them.

People don't often change their views, Quite a bit of science supporting that claim nowadays.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 9:37 pmCambodia wants to discuss acceptable conditions for migrant workers to Saudi Arabia. I was just saying what I beileve to be true.
If I was trying to be insulting rather than humorous, I would have substituted the comma for a semi- colon.
Maybe we should ask them what they think?
I do find it vaguely amusing that you think they give much of a goodly s*** about their citizens abroad when they don't seem to GAF about their citizens at home.
Don't they still cut your hand off for stealing and stone women to death in SA?
Can I add your name to the list?

Note quite sure what that is supposed to imply.
But anyway, I'm sure 20M will help to smooth things over a bit.
