Just got this email from Australian govt's "smartraveller":

This travel advice has been reviewed and contains new information about the Khmer New Year celebrations (13-16 April). There are increased risks related to security, crime and road safety at this time. The Cambodian Prime Minister has announced local authorities have foiled a plan to bomb Wat Phnom in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Be alert during religious or national festivals, avoid large public gatherings, and monitor the news and other sources for the latest information. The level of advice has not changed. Exercise normal safety precautions in Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA —
The U.S. Embassy in Cambodia has issued a security alert over an alleged plot to set off a bomb during the country's traditional New Year holiday, which runs from Thursday through Monday.

The alert says U.S. government personnel have been advised to exercise caution around Wat Phnom, a temple in Phnom Penh said to be the target of an alleged plot by the overseas anti-government group Khmer National Liberation Front. The alert, described as based on media reports, was posted on the embassy's website and social media outlets.

The thwarted attack was due yesterday. The horrible people accused of this act must have decided to minimize injuries by acting before any influx for KNY.
Lucky the intel gathered foiled such a misguided plan from abroad.
