Phnom Penh Prepares for the Water Festival.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Yes and so is much of Cambodia.

‘The trash just floats away’

http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/t ... loats-away

Along a riverbank in the capital yesterday, garbage was strewn in a thick carpet 12 metres across and 10 metres long, spilling down from the embankment’s crest and directly into the water below.
A similar site had provoked outrage just a day before, when a video showing workers sweeping trash from the Water Festival directly into the Tonle Sap river went viral. But for residents of Derm Sleng, a village in the capital’s Chbar Ampov district that remains off the garbage collection radar, such a sight has been the norm for years.

shame really, seems to be just a way of life.

From the article the government/authorities obviously need to do more by placing rubbish bins everywhere and having Cintri collecting and disposing of rubbish more regularly/reliably.

You can't really even start a 'Clean City' or "Keep Cambodia Clean' programme without that in place first. A Cambodian friend of mine was bemoaning how dirty his country is, just last week.

one of the rubbish bins along the board walk during the festival. it's supposed to have a bag in it, but nobody used it anyways.
