Phnom Penh Prepares for the Water Festival.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

one sad note was that the folks sitting along the banks would just drop what ever trash they had (bags, cans, plastic bottles) and it just rolled down into the river.
no so much pride I guess. there are some trash bins along the walk, but they had trash piled up all around them.

cheers

a race. some of the boats really out classed the others and won by several lengths. I did a rough count and figured there to be 80+ rowers.

Last year I arrived in Temple Town the morning after the end of the water festival and the place was utterly trashed. Long way to go...

maybe you went to a diff river.

That's not a shload!
Back in the day, there would be no cars along that stretch of road. The road would be shoulder to shoulder chockablock full of people. You couldn't just walk freely wherever you wanted to go, you had no choice but to go with the flow of people.

The ghosts of Diamond Island are telling them to stay away!
Exactly what I thought. That's a very thin crowd compared to what it was 6-10 years ago. It was like Notting Hill Carnival, you could barely cross the street.

Yep, a lot less people on the main riverside compared to 8-- 10 years ago, but maybe it's because they are spread out over a wider area now.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
