Phnom Penh to Get New $23 Million Domestic Airport Terminal

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

it all depends on the number of flights coming in at the same time,

I have cleared Phuket in 15 minutes yet sometimes have heard it takes over an hour,
of course i have learned I always ( when flying into Bangkok) go to the monks immigration line at DM
I flew into Yangon last dec, took less than 10 minutes an thats with a per-approved visa

PP was always fast for me but i do pay extra to sit in the first 10 rows on air asia and always get voa
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Yeah, richard, my experience in Yangon was with a much-vaunted ' visa-on-arrival'

They didn't figure on 168 queue-jumping Chinese being on board, a printer breaking down, and one immigration officer on duty

Otherwise, it was fine.

Bloody expensive Yangon guesthouses, and shitty, too.

I heard a rumor the other day from a pretty good source that AirAsia is currently looking at flying into Snookyville. It was about 4 years ago that they walked away after Vietnam Air/Anchor Air conspired with the powers that run the airport to make the "Fees" so high Airasia said to hell with it.

Yeah, that's great, they just inaugurated the new terminal a month ago. Please try and keep up with current events.

Yeah, it's great. In departures you can now get overpriced coffee at Starbucks or buy a carton of "dutyfree" cigarettes for $28 instead of $10.50. You have to take the escalator upstairs to find a toilet. Progress innit. :dm:

The government should be looking to acquire more land around the airport for less traumatic future airport expansion before the area gets even more heavily developed. Some time in the distant future, the one runway won't be enough to handle the airline traffic. Plus, there is no other landing direction option for differing wind conditions.

That would be a hard option to follow. I just went out on my balcony to see which way it was blowing now.

dont see much space for expansion, anyway the super qualified officials could just ask the planes to land and takeoff at both end of the runways to save time

That's why it's best the start acquiring the land now. The surrounding land is only going to get more developed and increase in value and population over time, which means more headache and protest when the government decides to seize it. One runway won't suffice for the future.
