Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The Russey Keo Bridge in Russey Keo Sangkat, Phnom Penh, has been temporarily closed to road traffic after a sand barge crashed under the bridge on the evening of 20 November, 2022.

Image
Mr. Sam Piseth, Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport of Phnom Penh, said that road traffic on the bridge across the Tonle Sap River connecting the Chroy Changvar satellite town to National Road 5 has been temporarily suspended, pending an impact assessment after a sand barge crashed and sank under the bridge.
He said that now the bridge is temporarily closed, but it is not yet clear how many days it will remain closed; this will depend on the experts' evaluation of the extent of the damage to the accident site.

This bridge is where - 10km north of the Japanese bridge? Never saw it before - haven't been that side of PP since the last decade

At least they waited for after ASEAN...
No casualties i hope.
Is that a pedestrian walkway it hit?

I hate that bridge, always feels like it will fall down/flip a steel sheet up/wobble me off etc.

The KT calles it the "ballet bridge" (actually a Bailey bridge). It would be nice to see Swan Lake performed on it.

Now that a sand barge has sung its swan song there, that would be quite fitting.

^^^^ All the sand barges sit at almost water level like that.

Perhaps they might consider using tugs to pilot through that narrow opening in future.

I hope they saved the dog too.

Indeed. I saw one like that get caught in heavy rain. The crew frantically tried to shovel as much sand overboard as possible but to no avail, the barge sank.
