Phnom Penh Authorities Announce Massive Overhaul of Waste Disposal System

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

The different coloured bags is the daftest idea they've had. As if anyone will do it. It was announced months ago, and until now I assumed they'd quietly dropped the plan.

After Mizuda took over we got instructed not to put rubbish out until 5pm. Previously the heap would start to build from about 1pm, which at least gave the pickers more time.

Wheelie bins aren't great here. The lid comes off almost immediately, then the wheels will last 6 months if you're lucky and within 2 years it will be pretty beaten up and that's if it sits at the side of the road and doesn't get moved around. I'd love to see them widely used along with dumpsters in busier areas but won't hold my breath.

I always keep my recycling separate so the collectors can make some money from it without making a mess of everything else.

Thousands of them have already been placed around the city but it depends on which trash company's area it is.

I bought black bags for organic waste and use grocery bags for non-organic. Proud to be of help to this city, any way I can,
