Phnom Penh: Airport trains to be ready by Khmer New Year

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Will be very interesting to see how the other traffic will deal with the regular trains....

I'll skip it while they do test runs I think....

So it is actually happening, amazing. Let's hope it opens as scheduled, a few people would like to ride the train at New Year. Perhaps with all the Chinese money there will be a Bangkok style rapid transit system built. It would be cool.

1200m? That doesn't even get you from the airport to first set of traffic lights at St 2004.

Working this fast can only mean one thing: they haven't planned it properly and it will create even greater pain for traffic heading to and from pochentong, not to mention the thousands that commute from out that way

The 1200 meters is just the extension. Mostly it uses the normal train tracks.

Ah. I thought it was going to be light rail/tram, not rail rail.

I can't understand this link at all. Is there any map of it? I can see how a link could go from the airport to the existing railway. So you get onto the single track somewhere near the old Pochentong station, then what? The track from there goes across a few level-crossings at major junctions like Hanoi St, 598, Kim Il Sung and then ends up at where? The old train station, not particularly convenient for anywhere these days. They should have doubled up that track and pushed it all the way through to the riverside way back, instead of building office blocks in the path. I'm all for smart initiatives but I'm failing to see how this could be of any benefit whatsoever.

Where is the pic of a Chinese man driving his car down this concrete motoway.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
